Some format changes on game shows

Most of you have probably heard that "Wheel Of
Fortune" is adding a $1,000,000 wedge (I think it's
in the first three rounds), with a possible million-
dollar winner every night.

A couple of other shows are making changes this fall.
"Jeopardy!" is adding a segment called "Ask Alex" (are
we finally going to find out if Alex is really that smart?),
but the biggest changes are on "Who Wants To Be A
Millionaire." They're eliminating the 50-50 and Change
the Question. Also (and this is huge), contestants will
now be on the clock: 15 seconds to answer the low-value
questions, progressing to 45 seconds plus time left over
from the 14 previous questions should the contestant make
it to the $1,000,000 question. This should cut down on some
of the editing; one contestant spent 53 minutes trying to answer
a question. In a way, the new rule on the jackpot question is
reminiscent of "The $64,000 Question"; when a contestant reached
the $64,000 level, he or she was permitted to bring an expert in
their category into the isolation booth. If nothing else, it should
make WWBAM move faster.
