Some formats I would think San antonio would use:

Hot // Progressive talk news/talk -- not all politics talk
Hurban & Hiphop & dance
Decent Sports station -- Day & Nighttime coverage
Adult r&b station on FM
Texas country station decent coverage on FM

Anything else?
I really dont know how well a all dance station will work, but I think with it mixed in with Hurban & Hiphop it might work out.

Classic Country is on 680 AM
Smooth Jazz is on 91.7 FM-24 hrs a day.
Progressive Talk is on 103.1- The coverage isn't great however; even with descent coverage it's not profitable in S.A. or Austin.

there is no smooth jazz on 91.7. That's a traditional jazz station. And it's not 24/7. They play jazz from 5am-10pm then it's alternative/indie from the time being.
You can also get progressive talk (pirate) on 101.5 if you are in the I-10/1604 area, and for some reason, the signal is extremley strong in my neighborhood, blasting ALL stations on my Sony Walkman and my Pioneer tuner, but not the car.

I know classic country is on 680AM, but it needs to be moved to FM or have the format mixed in with today's country like KVET.

I have also mentioned a full urban station suggestion before, but CC decided to stick it on AM.....................dont' want to call anyone the "R" word for puting this great station on a noisy and pitiful AM signal.

more suggestions: a christian station but with a "harder" edge. In other words, not a bunch of ballad acoustic stuff like 91.3.

and a regional mexican station like Norteno 720 or La raza 98.5 in Houston.

That reminds me of KROY a while back, wow you talk about some harder christian rock, they played heavy metal christian rock! It was really something to hear! I wish that station would come back. It was recently a Tejano format, but now is silent. I should of made a aircheck of that station, it was really diffrent.

Sweedish Reggae. Definatly. There are so many different cities that are jumpingon this! San Antonio is soooo behind the times. Radio here sucks. If we had Sweedish Reggae, it would be the number one station in town.

(feel free to replace "Sweedish Reggae" with your niche programming du jour, clowns)

I agree. San Antonio in general is behind the times. We should have had freaking ramps connecting 281 to 410 by the airport a long time ago!!!!

I say S.A. needs a urban station like K104 in Dallas to compete with 98.5 the Beat. A Urban AC on FM that can be heard all over the city. Also S.A. needs a 24-hour Smooth Jazz station too. Not just S.A., but Austin too except for the urban station.

If you ever have a chance to go up to Dallas, listen to K104 and you'll see why they are always #1. Ex: Playing a more variety of music (Hip-Hop and R&B) and they always be in the community showing and giving support all the time.

They got Smooth Jazz on Softrock 101.9 HD-2

San Antonio and Austin markets do not support the Smooth Jazz format. In fact, I believe Austin has tried it twice and San Antonio once.
