Some grand NEW ideas for Boston...!

I moved here from CT about 3 years ago, and let me tell you what crap is on the radio here....! Here's what should happen-

WJMN needs to go to a true hip-hop/reggae/dancehall format much like the unofficial "WPOT- 87.7" pirate.

WMJX needs to cool it with the new crap music and focus on more 70's/80's lite rock. (you know, how they used to be 5-10 years ago...!)

WBZ should move to FM and keep the same format.

WJIB 740am should move to 1030am at 50kw day/night...............!!!!

And whatever happened to 99.5fm from 10 years ago? They were a wonderful contemporary Jazz station. They need to come back.

One of the other pop stations- kiss maybe? should go full out Dance/electronic.

These people want to make money, but everyone is competing with cheap channel, and the stations all play the same crap all day long- how damn annoying....... These stations must be managed by old fogies who don't know any better. They must think people want to listen to the same crap all day long.

Everyone wonders why ratings are going down........... Well what the hell?! Play something good damnit....! Some VARIETY---- not POP CRAP...!

I'm just saying- BTW- I'm 31 years old.

But a lot of people DO listen to those "crap" stations all day long. Why do you want to blow them up and replace their programming with fringe formats, none of which have ever achieved a fraction of the ratings those stations are getting with their "crap"?

Crap is relative. One man's trash is another man's treasure. For every audiophile that hates today's productions, there's a 30 year old lawyer making 100k a year who loves to listen to Lady Gaga once an hour on Kiss 108.

There IS a solution to your problem. Get an HD radio.

WJMN HD2 plays old school Hip Hop.

WODS HD2 plays what WMJX ought to be.

WBZ is on WBZ-FM HD3

Smooth Jazz is on WMJX HD2

Dance music is on WEEI-FM HD2

There is also two versions of the old WBCN, Early WBCN on WZLX HD3, New Alternative WBCN on WBZ-FM HD2

All Blues "Radio Mojo" on WZLX HD2.

'70s on WROR HD2.

'80s on WBMX HD2.

WBOS HD2 Indie

Right Wing political talk on WXKS HD2.

Classic Country on WKLB HD2.

Did I miss anything?

Oh yeah Show Tunes on WERS HD2.

I would venture to guess that Kiss 108 is the 1st or 2nd most profitable station in the market I don't think they will ever change the format as long as the cash continues to roll in.

JMN has always been programmed for white people.

It would be nice to hear BZ on FM. During the hurricane weekend BMX has bZ newscasts or BZ people doing news on BMX. They sounded really good on FM.

I will reserve comment on JIB moving to 1030 for the JIBGUY

76.0 WMFO (why is Curry on same freq? makes no sense)
76.2 STonehill
76.4 UNH (why do these two share a freq with bel mizik? makes no sense)
76.6 Brandeis (cuz i cant get it on 100.1 anymore)
76.8 Radio Concorde (cuz who has an AM radio)

you get the picture. continue to 87.5

Of course the HD3 signal of WBZ-FM carries WBZ 1030. And: when Scott Fybush was on Leveille's show I recorded it to hear back on my mp3 player. When I listened: my, my, is that the Leveille theme in STEREO?
Indeed, and I remembered I had recorded it off WBZ's stream rather than the receiver I have hooked up
to my computer. Thus the stereo music and the crisp and clean(er) sounding voices. That's what it will
sound like.

WBZ sounded great in A.M. Stereo. They need to dump IBOC & go back to C-QUAM.

Or move to 3880 or thereabouts and put their signal on one of those "boat anchor" AM transmitters operated by the hams who've been hanging out there since the '70s, reverb and all.

I have only vague memories of AM stereo. Did it increase splatter, or was it still possible to hear adjacent channels? I know that, here in south central CT, I was always able to get WBAL at night despite the presence of WTIC (AM) until 'TIC turned on IBOC. Now it's just hash. Did 'TIC transmit in stereo in the '80s or '90s?

The problem's not with the music.

The problem is that radio isn't as entertaining as it used to be. Radio is show business, as my former boss Bill Campbell always used to say. Where is the artistry? Machines are wonderful labor-savers, and I've built and installed enough of them, but they are poor artists.

The day the music died, as far as I'm concerned, was the day the owners of WBCN bought rival WZLX. And not long after that, Kiss-108's owners bought WJMN. Rivalries added excitement to the radio dial. What's left? Only WEEI versus WBZ-FM, unless you count WGBH's quixotic tilting at WBUR.

If you think Boston is crap, come down to NYC for a day and tune around.

There are still a few stations running it, although I can't think of any in the Boston area.

Are there receivers still available for it, or does one have to hit eBay and hope to find some 15-year-old tuner?

An A.M. stereo fan has created his own tuner for sale at meduci.com & Marv Southcott's Fanfare FM has 2 tuners available. Also, audiocubes2.com has one model left.

If you live closer to Worcester you may be able to pick up WINY/1350-Putnam, Ct.. Also, WBLQ/1230-Westerly, R.I. is running it. But Ct. has 4 stereo stations still: WINY, WQUN/1220-Hamden, WLAD/800-Danbury & WAXB/850-Ridgefield.

73 & good A.M. stereo listening!
