Some help please

Okay folks, I just moved to Oklahoma City from Dallas about two weeks ago. I must say that radio here is just as boring as it is in Dallas. I must say that I'm surprised to find Jack and Bob right next to each other pretty much doing the same thing. I can't seem to get Jack in stereo anywhere I go though. How much power are they putting out and where is the transmitter located? Also does anyone do good news coverage on the radio here?

http://www.recnet.com/cdbs/fmq.php?...ountry=US&zip=&party=&party_type=LICEN&jaws=0 KOJK is a 1,000 watt hairdryer on a tall stick. Inside coverage is VERY limited. It has good range, however. If you can, get an antenna close to a window or outside and you'll likely hear them OK. Also, they stream on the net. If you're just getting a mix of other stations, etc. with your current radio you might consider something like a Sony HD tuner http://shop4.frys.com/product/5575010?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG and hook up some computer speakers to it or an amp. This tuner has one of the very best FM receivers that can be bought off the shelf. To be blunt NO ONE in this market has good radio news. 1000 is a poor attempt at it, but the biggest and most established in this market. 1520 consists of 2 overworked guys trying to cover their bases. They do a good job at the smoke and mirrors, but it's still a 2 person news staff. You are likely to get more good OKC news from 740 than here. I would say get a radio to tune TV audio but that will be going away in Feb 2009 so that's not even a good option.

OKLAHOMA CITY:

AM 1000, KTOK: http://www.ktok.com/main.html
AM 1520, KOKC: http://www.1520kokc.com/ (I don't see a listen live link)
AM 960, KGWA: (schedule): http://kofm.com/KGWA_Prog_Sched.html
(listen live): http://radiotime.com/station/s_32918/KGWA_960.aspx
(These guys are a MAJOR rim shot from Enid, and I couldn't
find their "main" page, so that's the reason for 2 links.)

TULSA:

AM 740, KRMG: http://krmg.com/
AM 1170, KFAQ: http://1170kfaq.com/ (No listen live link.)

...And don't forget your NPR affiliates can sometimes do some decent local news:

OKLAHOMA CITY:

FM 105.7 / 106.3, KGOU: http://www.kgou.org/
FM 91.7, KOSU: http://www.kosu.org/ (No listen live link, but podcasts.)

TULSA:

FM 89.5, KWGS: http://www.kwgs.org/
FM 107.5, KOSU: http://www.kosu.org/ (Simulcast of 91.7.)

And if all of THAT fails:

I hope this helps! Welcome to Oklahoma.

Hey Bro-
Welcome to Oklahoma. I can't help with the stereo thang but I can give you some great advice regarding your vehicle. Right now get some heavy duty, overload shocks installed. Also, remember to pray before either going over or under one of our great state's fine bridges. In addition, if you plan to travel the state turnpikes make sure you go to the restroom before leaving your house or filling station. Our rest stops only have port-a-johns and thats if your lucky. On the bright side, you're in Oklahoma where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain and the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet when the wind comes right behind the rain. It won't take long for to know you belong to the land and the land you belong to is grand, so when we say ah-yip-i-o-k-a, were only sayin' you're doin' fine Oklahoma, Oklahoma O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A Oklahoma OK!

Glad you're in the Sooner State...and will promptly renounce Burnt Orange for Crimson 'n Cream. Your first radio stop: KOMA, 92.5 in OKC...at exactly 5pm weekdays...you'll see how serious a collection of Bevo Busters we are!!!

By the way...Mr. O'Shea, who greeted you earlier, is a terrific contributor..and had Bevo's child last year.
