I was in a restaurant over the weekend that had Coast playing & heard a couple of things I hadn't heard before. I don't hear the "all about the variety" line anymore, but could be missing it. Not sure if the "no rules weekends" are still on. I've been hearing them refer to songs as Coast classics, which is fairly recent. Sunday for the first time I heard a promo referring to "the songs you grew up with & the hits of today" or something to that effect. Ironically a female listener's voice followed referring to hearing Faith Hill & Martina McBride (did Rick take that with him from WCTK?). Also, M.G.Kelly came on at 5PM Sunday with his 80s show & I assume Dave Stewart follows him Sunday nights with that 90s show. Anyway, irregardless of the canned shows it does look like some little changes are being made. Now it's a matter of whose listeners they're after & as I said in another post, whether or not listeners really do shop around for new stations...especially female AC listeners. I really don't think either Coast or Lite is doing anything to alienate any listeners, so is the end result going to be that neither station is all that affected?
Now the big question has to do with Whoopi rumors on Coast, speaking of alienating listeners. I don't care what she sounds like. Other than as a cost-cutting measure, she'd be a big mistake on Coast.
