Some NYC/area radio questions .

Hi ! Coming , originally , from the NYC metroplex ( Westchester , 2B precise . ) , I'll ask the first of , at least some , ?s here .
I'm not as much a " super " radio buff as many others on this board tend to be , so pleas take that into account .
(1) There any likelihood of any station taking up 'CBS-FM's oldies mantle ? Even , say , some stations in the 'burbs ?
(2) A posting seemed to say , and , a v. quick flick thru your AM list seemed to confirm , that there are 3 what-could-be-termed AC/AS stations left in the area , all AM . What are they like ? More " sophisticated " , a la 'NEW-AM ? Music Of Your Life ?
As far as the state of oldies - health , rather !!!!!!!!! - radio goes , I'm afraid that I JUST found out that KFRC San Francisco has dropped classic oldies for a 70s format !!!!!!!!!
(3) This was semi- , anyway , answered before , but...WVIP-AM and -FM up in Mount Kisco . I semi-grew up with it .
Apparently , after it burned down in the 90s , one frequency became Spanish Christian talk and one was left vacant ?
Edited by jgbook2007 on 09/06/05 09:40 PM.

1250 WMTR Morristown, NJ
1260 WBUD Trenton, NJ
1360 WNNJ Newton, NJ
1410 WHTG Eatontown, NJ
1470 WKAP Allentown, PA
1500 WGHT Pompton Lakes, NJ (daytime only)
1510 WRNJ Hackettstown, NJ
1520 WWKB Buffalo, NY (AM Stereo, nighttime only)

Two comments on your list

1. I wouldn't call DRC-FM in Hartford an "Oldies" station any longer. They're more of a "classic hits" outlet now. They seem to be concentrating on the 70's. Very little from the late 60's, and NOTHING from the 50's.

2. I think WREF in Ridgefield is fulltime with 500w at night.

WREF is listed in the FCC database as a 2500-watt non-directional daytimer. They might have a reduced-power pre-sunrise/post-sunset authorization (PSRA/PSSA), but not a full nighttime license.

In the mid-'90s, WREF wanted to undergo a significant upgrade to 10,000 watts daytime and add a 500-watt nighttime license, but for some reason they didn't go through with that.

You're right! I was looking at the TVRadioWorld.com listing which shows them at 500w at night. But the FCC database says "daytime only."

Don't forget B-103 out on Long Island
103.1 WBZO Bay Shore, NY

Wow this was a very hard post to read...

There are already stations in the 'burbs picking up the oldies slack...B103 and WLNG on Long Island, WMTR in New Jersey, and Kool 96.7 in Connecticut.

No way...no AM station currently has anything resembling AC or Oldies or Standards in NYC. There is WHLI on Long Island on 1100 AM, which does well with its standards format, very well in fact, but it only covers Nassau and part of Suffolk, and only in the daytime.

WREF has post-sunset with something like 50 watts non-DA for two hours past sunset. They also have pre-sunrise, I believe, but I'm not sure of PSRA power.
