I just took a look at the ratings for the Ft. Myers area and Renda's Gator smacks CC Cat Country out of the ball park. What it shows is that they have a 5.9 and CC station has a whopping 2.8. Sounds mean does it not? Could the same happen here in Jacksonville? Sure it can.

About the Kool playlist at being 500 songs and more to come as mention before: Its more than what COOL 96.9 had and we should be happy with it. Also look their a lot of big markets than Jax and smaller too that wished they had an oldies station. We need to take the one we have for granted. We are lucky to have 100.7 playing oldies. You know they could have just kept competing with 96.9 you know? I am thankful we have an oldies station. Hey their was nothing better than turing on the radio this morning to hear KC and The Sunshine Band's Get Down Tonight. That is a good classic their.

but you do not

The last part of this statement is really, REALLY pathetic- sorry.
It totally flies in the face of what you wrote in the SUBJECT line.

Wow.

Oldies Cat,

I agree with you most of the time, but what do you want GOOD GRAMMAR or GREAT PASSION? Keep listening and posting Mburg, radio needs many more of you!

I think a little of both (especially spelling the word "grammar" correctly) would do well...as well as a little humility. Mburg thinks he has a clue about the topics he discusses, but as they say, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. He needs to just step back a moment and stop thinking he knows so much. He reminds me of me when I first got into radio...and I had a lot to learn.

On the same topic, "Get Down Tonight" is not an Oldie. Maybe in some weird, "Jammin' Oldies" world, but it's just SO NOT A FRICKIN OLDIE, in my opinion. It's DISCO, for cripes sake!

Keep the passion, mburg, but take a spoonful of humility and step back and learn from the "old farts" that populate this board. I know I defer to their experience whenever it seems appropriate (such as in areas of radio I'm not intimately familiar). And seriously, work on the grammar. It makes you look smarter. :)

missed the point

It isn't the grammar- it's the mindset revealed in a statement like "we need to take the one we have (oldies station) for granted", the thought being "hey, it's on-the-air, who cares how bad they are- we should just be satisfied they're on".

It's THAT thinking that is positively KILLING radio in 2005.

Re: but you do not

There is a word I know how to spell and it is BREVITY! Look it up and apply it to your future posts Mr. White!

Um, waah?

If it's too long for you - if you don't have time, don't read it. Others who are capable of digesting longer posts will enjoy it (or not).

Believe me, this is nothing compared to when you get me started on topics I care more about, my friend.

I simply am incapable of understanding why so many people who frequent message boards can't handle a three-paragraph post.

I find it's much better to use the extra words to more fully explain what I mean than have to expand a thread having to explain every little detail of a too-short post to people who didn't get it...

Seriously - time yourself reading my post. It's nowhere near as long as you'd expect - unless, of course, you're a really slow reader...and there are guys who are much bigger offenders than me on here in terms of a lack of brevity.

Besides - the post was for mburg - and he's not exactly the most concise poster in the world. I think he can handle 12 lines of text.

Attacking me like this because you can't spell the word "grammar" and I pointed it out says a whole lot more about you than it does about me. Learn and move on, my friend...learn and move on.

Peace!
Brian V.

Re: but you do not

I love to learn and you taught me that Kelsey spells his last name wrong. I'm watching too many Cheers reruns on TV Land and it's warping my brain. Now it is time to move on and for you to learn something that you already know. Read your 1st paragraph again, which was exactly how many I wrote you!

Stop your post right here! You made my point for me. You said everything in two little lines, one short paragraph, that you did in your entire post, only with very few words.

The other 6 paragraphs are redundant!

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about post length. I think you're being whiny because you want people to conform to your one-paragraph world (in which, by the way, you haven't always dwelled), and you think I'm being long-winded.

I think Dave Mason sang it best,
"There ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy...there's only you and me and we just disagree."

Peace! :)
Brian V.

P.S. I know you were joking, but Kelsey's name is right. It's a surname, so it doesn't have to be spelled the same as the term that describes the characteristic system of inflections and syntax of a language. Both can coexist peacefully. The difference (besides the spelling) is that Kelsey's surname would be capitalized, where the other one would not. ;)
