I had to laugh when I read that, as I looked out my window of the view of KOMO’s three towers just a mile and a half away. Should I augment my drive to avoid the RF triangle of Maury Island (KIRO, KTTH and KPTK)? No more sun tanning under KVI’s tower. My best friend owns property abutting to the KGNW, KJR facility.
There are some issues. Sometimes if you spend too much time on KVI beach you come away thinking a little right wing. On Maury island depending on where you stand your either right wing or left wing.
Vashon island the only place where you can listen to your favorite sports team no matter where you drive or what condition your car radio is in. You can listen on a crappy AM radio or cheap telephone in most locations.
Vashon Island where you don’t have to turn the TV volume down and the radio up to hear the radio play by play.
Imagine the luxury of being able to cook a meal talk on the phone and never lose track of your favorite sports team or religious values.
All kidding aside, Vashon has more problems with the improper use of DDT on past farms and arsenic from the old Tacoma smelter and our failing septic systems near the beach. If we could apply a few ferrite beads and make the problem go away or add better grounding and fix some of the ground contamination problems that would be nice. But we can’t. Radio tower issues are much more straight forward to fix than other environmental issues.
Most of the antenna farms on the island actually do still support some of the local agriculture here on the island. Some fields are mowed and bailed, then feed to local island farm animals. Animals are allowed to graze in some of the fields. You can visit some really cool goats in the KGNW field. There is a long history of Islanders using the KIRO field and KING field for farm animals to graze. Dogs love the open space of these fields especially the KGNW/KJR field….and KIRO’s and of course KVI beach. AM tower facilities make good dog parks!
I told them. You never know they may turn it on and not like the signal…..Kinda like 950 trying to find a home for that poor transmitter they kept moving. Or 1210 AM before they moved to their original location and called it good.
And not to worry about the health affects of RF and look at what the farms have been using on the soil over the last 30 years.
They may have issues with how the Skotdal family conducts them selves but to use RF scare tactics doesn’t work.
