Some Predictions I'm Making For The Gump Area (After The Dixie Move Occurs)

WHBB AM 1490 gets a new owner and ditches the Head of the Republican Party (Rush) and his sidekick (Ms. Laura).  I predict that Hank Sanders will get this station and turn it into another Urban based outlet.  The new calls will soon be WBFZ AM (Z 1490), with a Talk, Gospel, Jazz and Old School R&B format.

WMRK 107.9 FM moves back to the Selma area and brings back their old WJAM branding and Adult Urban format. I just don't see this station going CHR and remain the Montgomery area.  On another site someone made that prediction but I'm not in support of that idea.  Anyway should this station come back home, someone else will have to replace the radio service that Shorter will lose.  I wonder which one will do it, should that prediction happen.

The current WJAM 96.3 FM/AM 1340 branding goes Country and picks up the WDXX calls, that the current one will soon abandon once they move to Montgomery.

Yours truly will continue to work on his own little project.  Hope to have something going with it, within the next year.  Would love to bring some excitement to my radio dial and give this market it's first and only full time CCM radio outlet.

Now if anyone wants to share their thoughts about these predictions, feel free to do so.  No matter what becomes of 107.9 and/or the 96.3/1340 combo, I'm going to root for their continued success.  Also I'll be rooting for the new Sports 100.1 FM to do well, once they sign on.

I hardly call a station with the main transmitter being built 2 miles away from the Selma Flea Market down river road a Montgomery Signal (See Link) http://i.imgur.com/VJfYI.jpg. The WALX transmitter (Selma based station) is located 4.5 miles closer to Montgomery than the new WDXX. If the new WDXX signal is a Montgomery signal, then WALX has been a Montgomery signal since 1989. Call a spade a spade..... WDXX being a Montgomery station is putting lipstick on a pig at best.

I think 107.9 had to jump through a lot of hoops to come to Montgomery. It's here for good. What will be on it is anybody's guess. Here are mine:

1) Combine with 100.1 (I know they're a Selma competitor)
2) Simulcast 100.9
3) Roscoe finally gets a decent Montgomery signal.
4) Tourist information station for Espyland, errrr Victoryland.

At best, the new WDXX will indeed be a weak rimshot in West Montgomery.

I say this because 99.9 from the Tallassee area and 100.3 from the Brantley area can also be heard in West Montgomery. (Around the Baptist Hospital)

Now as one travels to the south Brantley will come in much better, same is true for Tallassee as you travel east.

Mr Zach, you sir were right all along.

The winds will be blowing in the wrong direction for the new WDXX, once they relocate from here.

Why WDXX wants to reposition themselves as a Gump station is still beyond me.

Glad they are switching to Sports though.

P.S. I also know this.  From all the times I've scanned the dial at the Baptist Hospital, ALEX FM comes in much better than Dixie.  I believe this will continue to happen, once the move has occurred.  Anyway you cut it, ALEX has a better coverage area than Dixie will even think about having.

B.T.W. Kudos to ALEX for having the best radio station in this area too. Still being influenced by this presentation. Gotta learn from the best, if I have any intentions of making my own return someday. Still trying to work on that, as I post this.

On good sources: Mike Reynolds is falling in with that convicted sex offender who's involved with WRBZ - and stripped of 5 FCC licenses for being a felon and for "lack of candor" with the FCC. Want the whole story...search Michael Rice and the FCC. Better wash your hands Mike. You are judged by the company you keep.

My thoughts on this are:

Very disgusted!

As of now, I'm washing my hands clean of WHBB.

I will no longer listen to that radio station period.

If you sell that station to Mr. Hank Sanders, it won't hurt my feelings at all.

Do it now and get it over with.

Good riddance to Broadsouth Communications.

I will no longer support their product.

P.S. Just to see this info, is sickening to me.  When I need my radio fill, I can still depend on ALEX FM, Bluewater, Moody Radio South, WLBF and Rimshots WDJC and WHPH to take care of that need. On most days, I can still depend on my CD collection to keep my musical need taken care of too.

Now for the latest on this breaking story.

This info is taken from The Montgomery TV/Radio web site.

broadsouth communications just entered into a partnership with former cumulus market manager bill jones and brought in top sports talent doug amos…why would they risk all that for working with a convicted felon???

P.S. Hope this newly discovered info is accurate and true.  I hope that Mr. Mike isn't doing business with a known felon.  If so, then I will continue my protest against him.

Convicted in 1994 for his crimes that took place in the late 1980s, paid his debt to society, and has apparently kept his nose clean since then.

Not to defend the indefensible, but you are being pretty blatant about injecting certain biases that don't necessarily reflect what's relevant today.

Nate, it's not quite that simple. Everyone deserves a second chance, but Mr. Rice was stripped of his licenses not only for being a FELON (which is strictly prohibited by law), buy for a demonstrated LACK OF CANDOR with the Commission. In other words - he was proved to have lied about his continuing "interest" in his Company to obscure the fact that he was in defacto control - which was against the rules. HE LIED TO THE FCC. That's a character issue just as important as his felonies. Dishonest broadcasters who have been stripped of their licenses - a very rare thing I might add - don't deserve another go. Just my opinion.
