Some stations thats got to go!

Majic 105.3 & 106.7
What a waste!

so jras20,

i seem to notice the trend in your post is that you bash all stations except mix(kxxm) or atx stations and the only good music in your posts seem to be dance music or mixshows......

tell us what stations are good then!

or better yet...tell us what powerhouse stations you have programmed.....

im not trying to start a verbal war with you but you seem to be so knowledgeable in a lot of posts and then you sound like a overnight board op in others.....

just trying to understand.....

???????????? IS THIS TRUE???????????????

Yes I have a few mixes in just email me if you want a few copys, I had a web site, but let it go because I didnt have time.
One reason is Majic 105.3 needs to stop playing the same songs from 3 years ago, Z just keeps doing the same thing, I just think some of these stations COULD change somewhat.

Ok, let me change the title, some of these stations needs to change the way they play music, more variety on things that they can do. Or, at least that is what I think.

WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP YOU GUYS. LOOK, I AM A LONG TIME LOOKER AT RADIO INFO, AND SOME OF YOU IN HERE SAY GIVING THE FINGER TO SOME OF THESE STATIONS? AND THEN YOU COME IN BASHING THIS ONE COMMENT? WHAT THE HECK IS THAT? THATS CRAP TO ME. I USUALLY HANG OUT OVER AT THE HD BOARDS BUT I HANG OUT JUST ABOUT EVERY PLACE. YA'LL HAVE NOTHING TO SAY BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN A LOT WORSE POST IN HERE!!! SO PLEASE.....

I just think ALL SA stations need at least a big makeover, either with their imaging, their playlists, personalities, or the whole format. Like I said before, I came to my senses on what SA really needs and that's a nother hip hop station, a better one. It would be cool if they could put out a rap station that up to the standards of 97.9 KBBX The Box in Houston, which is the best hip hop station in the whole state of texas, possibly in the region. Then add R&B and classic country to our lineup, and we have an equally diverse selection of stations for the San Antonio listening area and others who are able to reach our signals. It is clear that people are sick and tired of listening to the same ten lame ass songs on the hour. That's why I see more iPod FM transmitter docks and XM/Sirius receivers in people's cars, or at least a S**Tload of CDs laying around. We dont' have necessiarly get rid of stations that I and probably others don't like, just a big improvement would be nice. More songs more songs mas canciones!!!

Another good point there, let me go back to the secound post, I have never really worked in radio, I have just studied it for years. Yes I do love dance music, one of the reasons why I havnt talked about mix very much is because they are acually sounding good these days. I do like a lot of San antonio radio, I like Jammin 94.1, 96.1, sometimes 98.5, and JackFM and KZEP 104.5, . I like most all kinds of Music. I just think some of these stations could re-image like sdh483 said.

deejay05: Maybe you should pay closer attention to jras20's posts. He is a LISTENER. You know what a listener is? He is, effectively, one of the many people that pay YOUR salary. If it weren't for people like jras20 that have a true dedication and interest in the world of radio, DX, and airchecks, people like you wouldn't be in the industry. You know why? Because there wouldn't be an industry. This guy's hobby is radio and that should be commended. He has a passion for this industry, having never worked in radio, that guys like you have long forgotten about. Maybe if someone in corporate radio had the desire, and the passion that this one simple listener from Lavaca County had, radio in San Antonio, Austin, Texas, and the USA wouldn't be a mass pile of mediocrity that it currently is. Obviously, you have (or had) that same passion for broadcasting that he has. If you didn't, you wouldn't be here on this board full of RADIO employees and the average, everyday listeners. He stated an opinion, an opinion that is just as valid as yours, mine, or anybody else's that post here.

jras20, I personally enjoy reading your posts, and I'm willing to bet most radio professionals in here find your opinions and thoughts valid and interesting to read. I hope that this one questionable response to your thread doesn't dwindle the passion you have for this industry. Keep the posts coming. You have an audience that appreciates your insight that only a dedicated listener and enthusiast can provide.

After reviewing the thread again, I realized that I have mistakenly directed my comments at deejay05, and they were intended to have been directed towards TheTruth210. My apolgies to you deejay05.

Yeah, If you have been long enough around the Houston, Austin/San Antonio, or Texas board, you should know that jras20 has mentioned a bunch of times that he is just a big fan of radio.

;D

Thanks you guys for the posts, I knew that their would be some haters for some of the posts that I did, or post, but like some said before, their have been a lot more worser posts than what I have posted even in the past! I still have love for all radio, and like I said before, I just would like for it to be better. Thanks again

I don't doubt that your heart is in the right place jras20, but you have to understand that corporate consolidation and relentless attention to he bottom line has drained most of the fun and innovation out of the radio industry. You're paddling your canoe upstream when you only pitch things that are fun and innovative. ;)

The first thing my college class in radio programming was taught is that the business of radio is not playing music or entertaining people. The business of radio is "selling audiences to advertisers." If there isn't an audience for something that advertisers will want to buy, it doesn't get on the air.

The fun I get from watching this industry is in trying to understand the business reasoning behind the decisionmaking. Why are there two or three stations in town with the same format? Who is actually listening to the stations that don't appeal to me? What can the advertisements (or lack of them) tell you about who's listening to a station? If a format is not in the market now, is it because there isn't enough audience to justify putting it there? How many corners can a station cut before it starts sounding and looking cheap? Those are all interesting questions from a business perspective.
