Some surprise late August FM Skip

Some Friday FM E-Skip brought several Florida signals into the Hudson Valley of New York.

I first noted very common “Southern Florida’s WAY-FM” WAYF-88.1 sometime around 3 or 3:30, but nothing else coming in. I turned the radio back on around 5pm, and noted a fair amount of skip activity.

Two new loggings:
WBVM-90.5 Tampa, FL. I was tuning up the dial and landed on 90.5 just in time to clearly hear “Spirit FM” ID at 5:19pm, mixing over local “Family Radio” religious translator. 1073 miles. Florida #65 since May 2003.

WWUS-104.1 Big Pine Key, FL, with Hurricane coverage, many mentions of Key West and Marathon Key. Their website stream, which was 8 seconds delayed confirmed it was WWUS, at 6:09pm. 1258 miles. Florida #66. Log now stands at 670.

Previously logged stations noted between 5 and 7pm, all Florida:

88.1 Joy-FM (WJIS) Bradenton see-sawing with Way-FM (WAYF) W Palm Beach.
89.5 WSRX Naples, religious.
91.1 religious with SRN news, listened quite a while with no ID, but probably WKES Lakeland.
93.7 Lite 93.7 WTLT Naples, and later WGYL Vero Beach unforgettable favorites “The Breeze”
94.9 WWRM “Magic 94.9” Tampa.
96.5 WPOW "Power-96" Miami.
97.3 WFLC “The Coast” Miami
99.1 WEDR “99-Jams” Miami.

Nice to see skip this late in the summer.
