Some Thoughts on Honolulu FM Stations

It has been three years since I was last in Hawaii, so here are some thoughts on the Honolulu FM dial:
-Power 104.3 and 102.7 Da Bomb sound overwhelmingly similar. Both have moved into the "Hip Hop and Hits" category, playing Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. But both stations have very tight playlists and even play the same re-currents.
-When did 107.9 change its calls to reflect the new Classic Hits format? The station sounds terrible. There is much more garbage off of the bird, and the music seems all over the place. I am too young to be part of the Oldies demographic, but the old "Oldies 107.9" sounded fun, with great jingles and good music. "Cool Gold" 107.9 is very bland.
-It is a shame that KHCM has to be off the bird as well. With the large military presence of people from the mainland, there seems to be an audience for Country on Oahu. By the way, is the Brian Douglas on that station the same Brian Douglas that has worked in Phoenix and Philadelphia? He sounds similar.
-Back in 2008, Honolulu had four CHR/Rhythmic stations. It is better served now with only two.
-When did KUMU start trending away from the "lite" branding?
-Star 101.9 has an interesting format. I'd almost call it Alternative AC.

I agree. They reverted back to Modern AC using the positioner "'90s, 2K, & Today" in early 2009, and then a few months ago flipped back to Hot AC/Modern AC-leaning modern rock using their original "Hawaii's New Music Alternative" positioner.
