SOME TWEAKS OVER AT Q100, AS WELL.....??

......Just slightly, but (EVEN DURING THE DAY), has anyone noticed over at Q100 that they have started playing A LOT more currents of pop and hip-hop at 10, 11am, etc? (and a LOT more often too) The changes are very slight, so far but I hope they continue in this direction. I guess the BIGGEST thing I've noticed about Q, lately is that they've seemed to have started phasing out stuff like "Slide" by Goo Goo Dolls, "Don't Speak" by No Doubt....AND ACTUALLY MOST OF THE OLDER MATCHBOX TWENTY IS GONE TOO!! (please don't let this be a dream)!

So, does anyone know if this is where Q is headed? Are they becoming more CHR....during the day and night? They are still not playing a GOOD MANY CHR songs....and my biggest beef is that they NEED to play less AC and more hip-hop (AS FAR AS RECURRENTS) But, I think they are headed in better direction...(one could only hope.....I mean, this IS CUMULUS we're talking about, right?

Any thoughts?

See my post under Groove 105.7. Where I ask "How does this effect Q100?" and I predicted a lot of the Rob Thomas type music would leave in favor of more "rhythmic" type music.

RTibbs, I sure hope you're right, I've been streaming radio stations outside of ATL like, WHHD-Augusta, WBHT-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and WAEV-Sanvannah...and for smaller markets, THOSE ARE SERIOUSLY SOME KICK-ASS CHR's!

And see mine under B98.5.

electroboy, I have noticed this too. They've tightened up the power rotations, they're playing stuff like "Down" and "Whatcha Say" (I guess they aren't really rap, but still) all day in addition to poppy currents, and the 90's gold is almost entirely gone. I personally loved most of the Matchbox Twenty/Goo Goo Dolls material, but they had run it into the ground and some of it sounded really inappropriate on a supposed CHR.

They still lean too heavily on recurrents, especially Hot AC-leaning ones. They're still not even playing "Run This Town" at night and are slow on other random currents that Jeffries evidently doesn't like. Nevertheless, the changes aren't too subtle to go completely unnoticed.

What is this Groove radio station people are speaking of? Are they playing Cascada or David Guetta or both? If so, then I'm interested in knowing more.

I'm not sure really how big "run this town" is compared to what "Empire state of mind" will become, but "Empire state of mind" I know will have a huge success. That has blown up HUGELY in London, who by the way is ahead of the U.S. when it comes to "real" music with meaningful lyrics being in their top 40.

I'm assuming the follow up to the massive run this town should be just as big, and I don't see why anyone who caters to traditional top 40 wouldn't play it today as if it were Coolio "gangsters paradise" in 1994. As a matter of fact, "run this town" itself sounds very pop, in addition to being a huge top 40 hit. Should be considered and fit in perfectly on any station that plays hits.

What Q100 was 2001-2006 and what it has been allowed to morph into with the Daughtry/Rob Thomas/Goo Goo Dolls/David Cook/Matchbox 20/Goo Goo Dolls/Daughtry/Rob Thomas rotation is night and day, and Q100 has become a CHR joke. I found this to be glaringly apparent when I found myself flipping to Star 94 for something newer than what Q was playing.

I hope they'll right the ship and go mainstream. Star will always skew older, as will whatever B98.5 becomes (although I see no major changes coming there, just half of last year's AC hits and Gloria Gaynor ad nauseum). Groove 105.7 will siphon off some older demos who want their disco fix and some rhythmic product, so it seems that Q100 might want to play more rhythmic for those who like it but don't want to sit through Donna Summer and Andrea True Connection to hear it.

Otherwise, there's still a big hole in the market for a true Mainstream CHR. The right sound and the right music will force Star and Q to rethink their position and tweak, and by then it could be too late.

I find it ironic that Groove 105.7 has no problem playing Rap/Hip Hop hits all day long while Q-100 and Star 94 do their best to try and avoid it.
In the past few hours Groove played
Heavy D & The Boyz "Now That We Found Love"
Salt N Pepa/En Vogue "Whatta Man"
50 Cent "In Da Club"
Will Smith "Miami"
Young MC "Bust A Move"
Tone Loc "Wild Thing"
Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock "It Takes Two"

In the past few hours the only title on Q-100 that was Rap/Hip Hop was
Puff Daddy's "I'll Be Missing You"

Star 94 ? forget about it. They're not even playing huge Rhythmic Pop hits by the likes of Jay Sean and Jason Derulo, not even during nights.

At least Star did play Sonique in 2000. While connecting flights, I almost had to ask the pilot "Are you sure we're in the right city?" when I tuned to Star*94 to see what they were playing and that came on!

Then the pilot said "Seriously? No way!!! Star is playing that right now?"

Ok.. well at least the first sentence is true here.
