Some...Use The Term....BEATLE-ESQUE.

Geez, man...are you turning into a curmudgeon or what? lol. I care about the Beatles. Greatest group ever, baby.

They are not my favorite group of all time but they were perhaps the most innovative of all RnR groups and they spanned pure guitar riffs to full orchestral compilations and from fun love songs to serious social commentary. If they were not "the greatest group" they were certainly in the top five.

Pardon me guys, while I read, and catch-up,...as I'm still trying to figure TheBigA posting a link to some Awww-ful Long John Baldry song??

In Memphis, there are two Kings: Jerry Lawler is the King of Wrestling, and Elvis Presley is the King of Rock & Roll! Disagree....if you deem it necessary, but the guy got layed more times than Chaz Bono has been mistaken for Louie Anderson!

Well,...that's not a stupper for me, as Reg Dwight derived his stage name from Elton Dean & Long John Baldry, both band mates, with Reg, in the British band, Bluesology.

Now,...to the non-trivial: A good Power Pop stocking stuffer would be, "Beach Town Confidential". This release, on ALIVE Records, is a masterful Live recording of THE PLIMSOULS, at The Golden Bear, in Huntington Beach(CA); in 1983, the zenith of their Live performing. If sound were....Heat,....then this thing would set fire to your drapes.

Sheeeeeeeeeeesh! Comes outtttta them speakers, and Rocks your coffee table, as it fondles your cat!

Samples on Youtube!

...and it was Capitol Records that laughed all the way to the bank: After signing The Knack, the balance of the industry laughed at Capitol,....Pseudo, Beatles wannabees...the entire gamete of finger pointing, and Hecklation! Then, when "My Sharona" hit #1, and stayed there for around six weeks, well the snickering came to a screeching halt. At that point, the bugle sounded to jump on the bandwagon, with all the other labels signing anything Beatle-esque! Signed were:
The Now, The Know, The Pop, The Singles, The Scooters, .The Hot Dates, 4 out of 5 Doctors,.....two of the Best were The Plimsouls, and The Beat! Check-out either one on Youtube, and you'll get the idea.....Power Pop!

Well,...Mario, a good point, but you are a little ahead of the game. Yes, to get their sound, The Beatles pilfered from quite a few American artists. It was that, spun with their self-contained band delivery, +plus that British passion & work ethic. It worked here,...and though different, so did The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and The DC5. Little Richard, "The Tanned Peacock", as fellow Photographer, Scott Lewis, once called him,...was a Rollin' Sack of Hell, especially on the Live stage. However, the Topic of my Post is those post-Beatles artists that patterned their sound & delivery. I used "The Red Button", as a prime example. Check-out "Cruel Girl" on Youtube, and my point will be quite clear.
