SOMEONE AT KJR FM SCREWED UP AT-40 AGAIN

AQH,

I've read this board since the start. I find out far more about the industry I love from all the posters here, you included, than I every did from co workers, radio rages, ect.

Grindle's posting is just what more PD's, managers, DJ's, need to see. Listeners that care about what we are doing.

His posts make me think twice about just mailing it in, which I would never do because I had the pleasure of working in radio at a time when many Grindle's existed.

Now because KJR is automated, will it be like a true oldies channel that KBRC has now?

Are you saying "will KJR-FM play more 60's or even 50's music"? I think that's pretty much a "no". You can dork around at a little 1 kw tea kettle like KBRC because they're in the middle of nowhere with no signal and...well...because they can get away with it. You don't with a major market signal like KJR-FM.

DUUUUUUDE!!,

KBRC is "bird" crap, it ain't no TRUE oldies station. It's "Classic Hits" in a can, just add transmitter and serve. They only got...what 3-4 people running them AND KAPS?

Better oldies can be found down south in Aberdeen/Ocean Shores on those LPFMs they have down there that you can hear via the web. KWDB 1110 out of Oak Harbor also does a better job in the '50s/'60s end of it, playing lost cuts not normally heard on your average "classic hits" station (They're daytime only, 500 watts and no web stream and not the best AM fidelity. Comes in vaguely in Seattle - had to set up a Select-A-Tenna and an outdoor wire to get them halfway decently in Fremont. But they fill a little niche.) And Danny Holiday does his '50s/'60s show on KSER 90.7

You won't be hearing any "doo-woppin'" oldies on KJR-FM. Shame, some of the sweetest, classiest music ever made.....

Someone at K-Hits in Portland REALLY screwed up AT40 yesterday morning. They started off with a countdown from October 1974, then without warning at #31 switched to a countdown from October 1977 - the one that was on last week - then at #22, went back to the 1974 show. I wrote to the station director, Dennis Constantine, and he emailed an apology.

That's actually a common problem when people program multiple episodes of AT40 (or any other VT'd, or syndicated programming) in the automation. There's a lot of details, but a lot of people cut and paste the information from one entry into another, sometimes forgetting to update EVERY entry on the fly.

Seems like they are repeating a lot of shows now that I heard last year. Do they have just a limited amount of original AT40 shows from the 70's to play? I see a lot of them for sale on ebay, but haven't wanted to pay the big $$$ they're going for.

I think they get the classic AT40 off some syndicator on CD. Vinyl is something you take your chances on if you're buying it off ebay. I have a few complete episodes on vinyl that I picked up at Golden Oldies records 20 years ago (I ain't selling...sorry. They're in GREAT condition and probably worth a FORTUNE.)

Classic AT40 is a syndicated program. Brilliant idea too.

There would have been multiple weeks where the shows sounded similar as certain songs hung on the charts for several weeks or even months. Songs 40 through 25 would vary much more and usually be stuff you dont hear much anymore.

There was one point today where every "last post" of every thread was made by Bongwater.

Harvest season.

No, some of these shows are definately ones I heard last year. I started recording them Sept '07, and already heard 2 that are in my collection. This Sunday's show is another repeat. Disappointing. I really listen for the songs that are lower on the chart, those are the ones that don't get airplay anymore. I wonder how many of the AT40 tapes even exist now. I assume they are using the original tapes.
