Someone REALLY screwed up

All weekend I have been trying to listen to my favorite station Z104.1 and somebody messed everything up.

All day Saturday they were accidentally playing some other station somehow and now today they are playing some really strange music.

I've been trying to call all weekend so someone can fix the problem, but it seems nobody's available :-[

Is there anyone on this board who personally knows someone at Z104.1 who can fix this major problem?

Not accidentally...on purpose. No Hog no more. Cloud 95 was being simulcast
on the freq. As noted above and elsewhere, there was (will be) a format flip
and 104.1 is stunting. Did the college radio course address stunting?
 
Actually it was 94.9 Mix-Fm that was being played, not Cloud 95

How could that other radio station end up on Z104.1 without anyone catching the mistake?

Those two stations are not even close to each other on the radio dial. Very strange.

Maybe by tomorrow (Monday) everything will be fixed.

Same thing. Years ago "KMXZ Mix 94.9" was "KKLD Cloud 95" and for some of
us old-timers the nickname stuck--especially when a newspaper story after the
calls/positioner change quoted one of the Mix-meisters saying something to the
effect of "we don't talk about Clouds anymore."

It pays to know your Tucson radio history. Alex, I'll take 155/KFIF for $200. ;D

To quote the Firesign Theatre in Nick Danger--"No no no. You don't understand
how radio works. Now all I have to do to return us to the present is fade my
voice out like this and cue the organist! (SFX: organ music up and under)
And you see... (double-tracked voice L/R channels) ...here we are."

It wasn't a mistake. Close or not close on the dial is irrelevant. Both stations
are owned by Journal and it was a planned simulcast as part of the stunting
ahead of (Tuesday's?) format flip. The only "mistake" was their dual legal ID
was not...quite legal. In more ways than I originally realized. But that's
another thread. ;)

Right now its image and DJ free, and is playing Hot 983 Slow Jamz meets KGMG.

Tucson don't fit this at ALL, actually its already suprising KGMG does do well.

Simple. If they're like most everywhere else I've worked, there's a switch on the board that will allow you to pot up any other radio station in the same cluster. Since Mix is co-owned, they probably just walked in, pushed the Mix switch, put it in program, and brought the pot up.

By the way, if it changes to talk as rumored, apply for a job at the station, even if it's as a part-time board op. No matter what you may think of the job, it will benefit you.

Oh no...here we go again.....

Anyway, I think KZPT would benefit from playing a high-tempo Rhythmic station. It would trigger a hell of a lot of people from the southern part of town who couldn't pick up Hot 983 if they tried. KZPT easily has a better southside singal than KOHT, which is programmed in Marana.
 
What the f........EVERY song they play has the word "truth" in the title. What ARE they doing over there? Are they having too much of grandma's cough syrup or what?

But its 100% obvious no one was ready for the station format change. The imaging...there is none. The DJs are gone. It just feels like one of those before-your-movie-previews at the movie theater on repeat x1000.
 
:eek: In my silly little former KIIM FM soul I find it fun to iritate the Cloud 95 folks buy still calling it that old monkier......So, what time did the Hog go off the air this weekend???? :eek:
 
I think it is truly a shame that they got rid of Z104.1

That was in my opinion, the best station in town.

Since I have been reading there is a soon to be new format, when will they start hiring new staff members and who should I send my resume to?

I am ready to get my start and break into the business ASAP!

from the new Cheap Channel edition of Monopoly. ;)

You might wish to look at the Arbitron ratings. Z's showing made a flip inevitable.

I'd have to disagree. Not only did they get mediocre showings in the book, but the actual music was boring and variety-less. The imaging was also probably the worst on Tucson FM.

Anyhow, the new "Truth" station is actually a News FM type of station. It sounds syndicated as it is all from ABC, also owned by Journal.

The program director is Andrew Lee. The address is 3438 N Country Club, Tucson, AZ 85716.

Also, they were looking for a part-time promotions assistant a few months ago. It's still posted. It's not the most glamorous job, but it doesn't require any previous experience and would get your foot in the door. While Journal's not my favorite company, it's a decent company, and it's certainly no worse than Citadel or Clear Channel. If you're interested in that one, check with Larkin Gassman at the same address.
