Someone Should Take on Lite FM

Many of the other New York City stations are making things way too easy for Lite FM. It would be great to see competition between Lite FM and another station.

The other station should do lots of advertising including promoting how they would be great to listen to at work, etc. Good jocks, great presentation, and a different playlist. Possibly more of a Gold AC type of station, but still with lots of the music on Lite FM.

Then they should go all Christmas, try to before Lite FM, and heavily promote that through advertising ect.

Creative contests would probably help too. What do you think?

Stations that should attempt to go after would likely be Mix or WPLJ.

If Jack continues to fail, maybe CBS could start an AC type format or a format like KFRC in San Francisco.

Comments?

I think a KFRC-type format would have been a nice move for CBS-FM. Updated oldies--KFRC had a good fall book as well.

I agree. That kind of a format on CBSFM would have worked instead of them going Jack. But, Theres only 1 side effect to that, it's not much personality radio and that's what we also loved about CBSFM when they were oldies. Yes the updated Oldies format would have been good for 101.1 like it is for KFRC but not the personality part. Infinity would have had to work around that part.

They could have easily updated the format and kept the personalities in place. It seemed to be what Dave Logan was trying to do before the plug was pulled.

In fact, they could have plugged in the same exact title that JACK FM is playing and probably kept some of the cume intact. Instead they took a format that was a potential disaster and replaced it with an actual disaster.

Blink, WNEW as an AC, Losing Howard, Hiring David Lee Roth, abandoning KROCK, its been a nice run recently for CBS. Maybe FREE-FM is the answer. Or maybe there's a LOT of pressure on Mr. Chernoff to keep Mr. Imus happy.
