Something Different on the dial today

I had on Patti Ann's Polka Show on WXCT 990 AM this afternoon. When her show ended at 3PM instead of the regular Spanish Language Christian Music/Teaching programming they normally run on WXCT they began playing English Language Christian Music. I listened the entire drive from my parent's house in Southington to Stop & Shop on Pine Street in the Forestville section of Bristol and I was enjoying the music. I was thinking I wish there was a station that played this type of music on a full-time basis. I was in Stop & Shop for about a half hour and when I came back out WXCT was still playing the English Language Christian Music. I don't know how long they continued playing the English Language Christian Music because when I got home I watched TV for a while and when I turned my radio back on sometime after 6, WXCT was back to playing Spanish Christian Music.

I enjoyed this treat of English Language Christian Music and wish some station would pick this up on a full time basis or at least mix it in on a regular basis on a Teaching Station. WIHS 104.9 doesn't play much (if any) Christian Music. It's mostly a Teaching Station.

Konnektikut needz a relejuss stayshun!

I have nothing against locally owned and programmed religious stations, the god-casters that infest translators all over the country ruin it. And I don't like how people donate to keep those wastes on the air instead of donating to charity.

Marc, if WXCT were playing Chinese classic country music, you'd be pining about how badly this format is needed in this market.

Personally, I would like to see a J-Pop program on a local college station (since we've shifted the topic to Asian music).

No offense to the Asians who read this board but I do not like Chinese Music or Korean music for that matter. The Chinese Music playing over the speakers is the only thing I don't like about eating in Chinese restaurants.

Update: I emailed Pastor Erick Selgado president of Radio Cantico Nueveo about the English Language Christian Music on WXCT and he wrote me back that it's a special show they do every Sunday from 3PM-4PM that's hosted by his son Erick JR. I'm gonna try and remember to listen every Sunday now.

Wow, look at all the people who care!
We went nearly a week without a WXCT post, I was getting worried!

Wow I would love to hear that.Chinese classic country music.
It probably song better then Country 92.5.

If I had an unlimited supply of money and didn't care about making money, I'd buy some of these little AM stations and turn them into niche formats that currently are unavailable.

I'd do Contemporary Christian Music on one station, Classic Country on another, and perhaps an Oldies Station that plays music from 55-74. (A wide spectrum of music). Yes 102.9 HD2 plays a lot of older oldies, but lets face it even a Flea Powered AM station playing the music would have more listeners than an HD2 channel.

Here we go again with MarcB's format of the month. First he wants Oldies, then he wants to bring back Talk Radio for Women, then he wants to brand the station as "My 990", then he wants Music of Your Life, then he wants Chinese Classic Country with French Subtitles, Fabric Softeners and runners on 1st and 2nd with a pinch hitter on deck. Then he wants this, then he wants that. What's it going to be next month? Jay Clark 24/7? ::)

With or without the dead dog dedication? ;D

"He was a little dog named Snuggles,..." ;D

All I know is that the clip in question came from 1985 and it was done after a Pointer Sisters song. It was their "up-tempo" record he refers to. ;)

Not gonna happen. All known copies of The Jay Clark Show from 2004 have been destroyed, except for the one I gave to Diamond Joe at The Cockroach in The Bronx and one I gave to Paul Walker.

I believe it was the year 2005 (some 6 months after The Jay Clark Show ended) that I put my Jay Clark alter ego to bed for good.

I admit it. The Jay Clark show was the biggest abonimation that was on the air in a long time. The only reason I even did the show is because Charlie Profit offered me the opportunity to buy a time slot and I jumped on it like it was the last spoonful of Fried Calimari at the Chinese Buffet. The reason the show had no structure to it was because I was doing it just to play radio, not to practice my radio skills and build my resume. I don't even remember how many shows I actually did. I was under contract for 14 weeks. (13 shows with one week off for my vacation). I think I missed 3. 2 because I was sick. And 1 because I was on vacation. And I don't remember how many weeks were left on my contract when Anda Productions took over the remaining 72 hours of air time on WXCT. Before it was announced the Anda Productions would be taking over the remaining 72 hours of airtime, I told Charlie Profit that I would sign another 13 week contract to keep doing my show, but I would have to change timeslots because my show was on Fridays 8PM-10PM and in September the station would begin running Southington High School Football and those games were typically 6:50PM-9:45PM (This included Pregame and Post Game).

That being said if I ever got the opportunity to do another radio show, I'll have the show completely structured. It will be formatted too. I have several different ideas for music shows I would do. I have an idea for a morning show and I have 2 sidekicks available to join me. I have an idea for an all Oldies show. I have an idea for a Saturday (or Sunday) All 70s Show.

In fact I did have the opportunity to do another show back in 2007, but the week my show was supposed to start was the week Radio Cantico Nuevo took over the WXCT airwaves. Charlie Profit was gonna give me a 3 hour block on Saturday nights (10PM-1AM) in exchange for me getting sponsorship for his Talk Radio For Women format. (Big Marc's Super Saturday Oldies Show).

Watch for "Jay and The Rodent" this fall on WHCT-DT 99!
