Something I noticed about the Rock music on XM

Before XM, the "current" rock stations I listened to were mainly WXRK, WYSP, and WMMR, with the playlist on WYSP being the absolute superior of all three.

After I got XM, the majority of my listening was to the pop and country stations, and I flipped a LOT between the Lucy, Ethel, etc.

But the thing is, a lot of the rock stations on XM are fractured and have very deep playlists (which isn't a bad thing) there doesn't seem to be one station that has a more focused rock playlist similar to what WYSP is.

The Boneyard is a trainwreck. It's DEEEEEEEP, but there's a lot of unfamiliar stuff.

What I'm saying is, I want to hear Top 40 Rock with older rock hits from the 90's mixed. Seether's Remedy followed by Audioslave's Cochise, Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam", and then Drowning Pool.

Is there such a thing on XM or am I doomed to spin the wheel o' Myfi?

A lot of people complain about XM's rock stations being too fractured. Some people like it that way, though.

You might prefer Sirius, which has more broad stations.

hahahahahah... I wait for three years for O&A and R&F to be in the same place, and Sirius is suggested to me. That, my friend, is hysterical.

Trust me, I'll be fine with my CD's or flipping on regular radio for my rock fix. I have enough equipment in my truck without ANOTHER satellite receiver! ha!

EDIT: Is Charlie Logan responsible for more of the XM Rock stations than just the Boneyard? If that's the case, perhaps Piazzagate has more creedence than I first realized.

Starscream I agree with you. I lived in Philly for four years and the rock stations are broad MMR especially knows plays darn near everything, but there isn't like a "active rocker" Some classics, some currents... That is definitly one of my complaints about XM is that my only way to get a rock fix is to flip.

Well then, enjoy the endless flipping!

I have both XM and Sirius, and I have to admit that I find myself flipping channels (with terrestrial radio involved, too) quite-a-bit. I would argue both of the satellite services are a little fractured with the broader radio formats. I also agree that Sirius probably comes a little closer to the format you mentioned, though I don't think it hits it exactly either.

If you really wanted to hear all those types of songs, you already had it for free on MMR or YSP.

I always viewed XM as the alternative to the same Top 40 rock hits being shoved down our throats via commercial radio.

XM's beauty lies from within the deeper lesser known tracks that will never return to terrestrial radio.

I just bought a Honda Element with a 3 month trial subscription to XM. I'm making myself crazy "surfing" all those channels, and not really listening to anything. Will this pass? I don't know if I'm going to continue with it...

I did the same thing about a month ago with an Accord. Believe
me, it will get better. I originally looked at the channel
guide and set my 12 presets where I think I wanted them. Over
the 1st month of listening, I have changed them some, and kept
some the same. You will find that there are stations out there
for you. I love Lucy, Ethel and Squizz and they get most of my
ear time. The other 9 presets are more mood listening for me.

I would say don't worry, you'll find what you like soon enough.
I'm never going back to terrestrial radio, unless I need to hear
the news.

So, why pay for radio then?

I have the feeling XM is trying to reach a larger, dischanted audience. They'd rather listen to stuff that made it to the top 200, then the top 10 or 20.

If it's "Semi Charmed Life" to "Big Time Sensuality," then the programmers are doing their job.
Edited by staticradio on 09/20/05 02:33 AM.
