Something I noticed about WAAF/WKAF

The stereo channels are reversed between the two stations.

Last night they played a Jimi Hendrix song recorded with the main vocal track on only one channel.

On 97.7, Jimi's vocal was on the right channel, on 107.3 his vocal was on the left. I don't know which one is correct.

According to Mediabase, WAAF has played the Beatles a grand total of 0 times in 2009.

WAAF is still an Active Rock format, which is a combination of current, recent, and classic "harder" rock, but it doesn't go earlier than the late '60s. Hendrix from '67 is about as far back as it goes. Classic selections are usually "stoner" harder AOR rock like Hendrix, Doors, Pink Floyd, etc...

I'd think the Beatles would be too light and "oldies-ish" for them. Maybe one of their later rockers like "Revolution" (the fast version) could fit in if they decided to play it, but I would think that the early '60s Beatles, with the vocals in only one channel, would definitely be too old and light for WAAF.

I was being facitious .. I would be floored if WAAF played the Beatles today (although the jam on side 2 of Abbey Road wouldn't sound out of place there). Mid 60's Beatles recordings like "Lady Madonna" with vocals panned hard right (or left) would make it really easy to tell whether or not the channels are reversed between 107.3 and 97.7. But I'm sure the last time WAAF ever played "Lady Madonna" was before 1980.

Some track from the White Album would fit in. //// Dig a Pony, Yer Blues, that's about it.

Dig a Pony is from Let if Be

"Everyone's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey" might fit. And maybe "Why Don't We Do It In The Road."

The Beatles as a whole has been nixed from the WAAF format, and has been for quite some time. There are even a handful of classic rock stations that barely play the Beatles anymore. WZLX may be one of only a few classic rockers that give the Beatles a heavy amount of exposure. Many classic rockers, especially the Clear Channel ones, are playing a lot more AC/DC and Van Halen these days.

For the record, Jimi Hendrix should be signing out of the right speaker on those tracks from Are You Experienced.

Yes I'm not near my records right now but I'm pretty sure that the vocals were pretty much always panned to the right. I've even heard some of the oldies stations play only one channel of old stereo records.
