Something stinks in New York

I saw their advertisement on TV and I think that it's blatantly inaccurate. There isnt a station around that plays "You Light Up My Life", (as the ad implies that WLTW does)

WHLI 1100AM Long Island does play, "You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Boone. But WHLI is a suburban Long Island station. So that may not really count.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

The ad wants to give the impression that Lite-FM plays that song (eventhough it doesn't)...also the title has light(Lite) in it...not a bad choice.

Didn't WPLJ once try to attack WLTW with an ad claiming LITE plays "You Light Up My Life"? Or was it a different song? That strategy didn't work then and won't work now.

Boils down to this:

Power that be:"Here's a frequency...needs fixing...what do we do with it?"

Another power that be: "Put something soft there for now...start "fresh" and get rid of the bodies...that'll give us time to think and breathe a little while generating slightly better revenue than we had."

Yes man: "Yes, I agree...let's do that."

Power that be: "Sounds like a plan..."

CBS in Buffalo NY has been running 92.9FM that way for years...
(note: CBS Buffalo has just recently been sold to Regent broadcasting, but you get the idea...)

I've seen that ad. I love how they say they don't play tired old songs, but just check yes.com and see how many times they've played As I Lay Me Down in the past few days. And that's picking on one song. Why can they blow all that money on ad campaigns but they can't put one good station together?

You're probably thinking of when Z-100 first signed on back in August of 1983. WPLJ had flipped to a Top 40 format ("The Home of The Hits!") the month before. The Morning Zoo would run comedy bits that featured WPLJ as the "All Debby Boone--All The Time" station. They further spoofed the 'PLJ airstaff and even then PD, Larry Berger ("Booger") as they went "from worst to first!" Though I don't listen to the station, it wouldn't surprise me if Scott Shannon (former Z-100 PD) pulled a similar stunt over at PLJ.
