Something That Might Help The Bull...

OK, here's another crazy idea about how to help get some ratings for 94-9 the Bull: Go with me here, we all know that Steve and Vicky is headed for the scrap-heap at Star, I mean Vicky's already leaving and Star will dump Steve for reasons mainly age-related in that they seem to be trending younger. So, if I'm The Bull, im going to realize that I need some local talent here as everyone on there sounds like they're from out of town/voice-tracking etc. So why not go after Steve McCoy for the PM drive position. He's local, he could make appearances at Braves games, etc., a few billboards during sweeps and such. I mean, what could it hurt and if he could bring in an extra point in the ratings, then the Bull could be pushing up towards top-10 status and start taking away from Kicks. The Bull, other than an absence of anything Atlanta (sep for the Braves), sounds GREAT. I love the music if only you knew you were listening to something distinctly Atlanta I think it would work! What do y'all think?

You think they sound great? I respectfully disagree. Their sound quality alone turns me off. No matter what radio I try to listen to them on, they sound tinny and overprocessed, like a low-quality webstream. If you can get past that, and I rarely can, you find nothing terribly compelling to keep you there. At least they've gotten back away from playing just anything with an acoustic guitar in it.

But I can't get past the fact that they sound "piped in." What was the use in creating a new station if you're not going to give it any effort, or for that matter, any life? But I think the Bull is more of a symptom of an industry-wide problem rather than the sickness itself. Somewhere along the line, people started buying in to the idea of "instant success." Sure, it happens, (just look at some of the American Idol winners) but you can't bank on it. And yet, that's what everybody's trying to do. Clearly, those in charge at the Building of Death thought that the Bull would be plug-and-play success, and a station they wouldn't have to think about. And consequently, nobody really does.

What makes you think he'd want to work afternoons for Cheap Channel after doing mornings for so long?

I agree that the music mix is great. I don't think they sound tinny or over processed at all. I do, however, think they need to connect with their audience more through their on air personalities. Aside from Lance Houston in the afternoons, I don't think anyone else is live and local. Even if they are, they just don't connect with the listeners. I still listebn because they do play a good mix of music. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have to agree with Clark Kent on this one. If they hired Steve McCoy, mornings might make more sense. But I can't imagine them paying that kind of money. And I still don't get this classic rock mixed-in stuff that they're calling "all kinds of country."

My understanding is thy are going to VT Giant Brian over all dayparts on several stations. Since Brian took spanish in High School he is going to be on Viva during mid-days with the La Hora de Gigante Brian Siesta

yea y'all have some good points. good question, why would Steve McCoy want to do afternoons at Cheap Channel when he just came off mornings at STAR? i would guess cause the radio job market is drying up for full-time big money guys here in atlanta. and he's not getting any younger. yes mornings would be a more attractive offer, but it sounds like they're planning to stick with this duo they currently have. and lance houston doesn't in the least sound like he's even here live, but isn't he program dir? i mean, move him to middays would be my choice. and yes the classic rock they throw in doesn't make sense esp when its not even remotely close to country. but i do like stuff like pure prairie league etc

The thing that would help, would be to get rid of Country.

I AGREE 100% With You They need to Bring Back either 94.9 Lite or Bring Back The 80's!
