Something up with WLYN 1360 AM/WAZN 1470 AM - Multicultural Broadcasting?

A friend of a friend who had been with them for 22 years in Operations was suddently let go without cause or reason this week - they supposedly even changed the locks...anyone hear anything about issues with Multicultural or moving operations remotely off site?
 
The two Multicultural stations in the area, 1360 WLYN and 1470 WAZN. which aired brokered ethnic programming, only had two employees. The local General Manager and the Operations Director. I heard they’ve both been laid off, but I have no further info.

As of 11 pm tonight (Thur. 12/19), both stations appear to be running automated (English) ‘60s/‘70s Classic Hits/Oldies.
Not a simulcast, different songs playing on each station
In the past hour, artists I’ve heard on one station or the other included Paul McCartney, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Linda Ronstadt, Supertramp, Electric Light Orchestra, Ike & Tina Turner, Chubby Checker, Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, The Pointer Sisters, Sweet, Cat Stevens, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Irene Cara, Boston, Ben E. King…

The only voice I heard was an automated TOH ID. Also, only one channel of stereo music appears to be being broadcast on their mono feeds.

This is not typical Multicultural Radio brokered ethnic programming fare!

I guess that's his version of a "Christmas Bonus".

Seriously, I know it's not a legal requirement, and this is radio where employees are often treated like third class citizens, but I hope a 22 year employee should get at least some form of severance.

No, but if '60s/'70s oldies turns out to be WLYN/WAZN's actual new format, quite a few posters here will be in a celebratory mood, and the loss of the OM's job won't matter to any of them.

These are the 2 stations that I started for MRBI in the Boston area, beginning in November 2002.
Effective 12/18/24 MRBI has ceased all local operations in the Boston area. Both stations' content
is currently being provided by corporate in NY, directly to the on air transmitters, in Lexington and Lynn.
MRBI plans to maintain the transmitter sites. Beyond that, I have no knowledge on their further plans.

I always thought that, since college radio days, that I would be a rock and roll DJ. That was the goal.
It did not not pan out that way. There are some great people at MRBI. Getting hired by MRBI in 2002
was a rare opportunity. Complete autonomy to design everything for a radio station. From the ground up.
The best engineer in the area to bring it to life. Grady Moates (Loud and Clean)

I am old enough to remember when AM radio was king. Things change. And then technology comes along
that changes things yet again. In the end, the numbers just no longer worked out. There are lots of costs
involved, and an ever shrinking pool of revenue. This was quite a ride. So glad that I got to be a part of it.

In the meantime, I am a local. I remain based in the Boston area. I am now looking for my next opportunity.

For a week or two before, 1.360 had a roaring loud noise floor with programming buried in the background!
I figured it was some sort of STL issue.

I grew up in a town right next to Lynn, hardly ever listened to the station, except for a short-lived sports talk show in the early '70s. Not much for me to reminisce about.

Actually, in the '70s, the one "sin" that Lynn had the biggest reputation for was arson. Hardly a week went by, it seemed, without news of a suspicious fire there.

I once saw an old episode of Cops that was filmed in Lynn which is how I learned that "city motto"
