Something's Up at CBS...

Based on that "other" site, and a few other things, I smell something in the air coming from CBS Radio. Looking at Mix's site, all of their shows' information is apparently gone. I also haven't heard a peep from a DJ on the air either, within the past hour I've been listening to Mix. No major or minor changes I've detected at Hot, so far.

Anybody know what's up?

It appears that Lauren Kelly still has a gig and she's on right now. The midday jock was blown out before Christmas. Traffic reporter Sara E was on middays today. Mix doesn't talk much, so you could miss their talk breaks. Even during the now-departed morning show they played a lot of music and the talk breaks were short and spaced out.

But it must have taken someone hours to scrub all the mentions of the morning show from their imaging... they mentioned that morning show more than the station itself.

Are their any obvious format holes? 610 to FM?

Don't think they'd really gain anything by placing the SportsTalk format on FM. They already are top dog in the format on AM, and 610 is a good signal. Would possibly depend on how the loss of revenue from the axed FM format would balance against the cost savings of eliminating a program stream. The same consideration was done by Cox when they axed the standalone format on 106.9 to combine it with 107.5. Obviously that plan worked.

La Grande is coming to 96.5 FM

Would be curious to see a musical comparison of La Grande in DFW to what is being done here on Mega 101. Are they different enough to warrant both formats in an increasingly crowded Houston Hispanic radio market?

Any change on 96.5 will take a lot of pressure off of Hot 95.7. Seems the two stations are cannibalizing each other, especially with similarly formatted KRBE in the market (yes, I know the difference between CHR and Hot AC, but the three stations seem a little too close demographically.)

La Grande is a hardcore regional Mexican station. Mega is a Churban (pop and rhythmic and reggaetón) format. The distinction is about as different as The Box and KILT-FM.

There is zero music crossover.

I can't see another Spanish station being added in this market. I sense either a merge, or something getting "Amp"ed. Probably either a different format or Classic Hits/Oldies ending up at the empty frequency, but not Spanish. But who knows?

I liked it when they did 90's on the weekend, but that probably won't work for a main format?

CBS has a lot of experience with classic hits in NY, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and other places. The problem they see is the format financially underperforms its ratings. So it gets great ratings but doesn't make as much money as a more currents-based station. They also require heritage air staffs, which can be expensive. Right now, CBS Radio is planning to launch itself as a separate company, so making money is the key. Whatever makes the most with the smallest expense is the format that will win.

There doesn't seem to be many local spots running, if any. Every ad has been an infomercial on both Mix & Hot since yesterday. I did hear a teaser for "New Year, New Mix" this morning, so not sure what's going on there.

Random question: Given Sunny's ratings (and billings), wouldn't it be a prime target?

Update: There is now a robotic countdown clock... on 95.7!! Also a message on Hot's website regarding "some" changes occurring today at 12:30pm....

I'm enjoying this! The countdown beats whatever Hot 95.7 was playing!

PS: it's also available for download at iTunes, too!... "Are you feeling it?"..... "And Now, Back To The Countdown!".... "Got Any Request?".... "I Love You!".... "This Is What Happen When You Don't Install Windows!"... KKHH & KKHH-HD1, Houston... KKRB, Houston... 100000 Watts, and this is what they do with it!..... "Hello caller, You're on the air".... What the heck?.... 2,333,962? Just Kidding!... I hope I don't forget what number I am on.... My programming would be famous someday... Isn't it exciting?... input, needs more input!.... I got stuff on my shirt... Look, Up In The Sky, It's a Bird, It's Plane... My, how time flies when you're having fun!.... This is my favorite number!.... Call Me Sometime!... Go Texans!... Making our County Proud!.... Free Hugs, does anyone want a hug?... Wants to hang out New Year's Eve?.... Are you feeling it now?... I live to count backwards!... Hi fare, I love You!....
