Sometimes it's good to be a TV geek

Not sure why it happened, but the other day my wife complained that our TV had, uh, "forgotten" channel 5. I picked up the remote, punched "5", and sure enough, nothing but snow. So I calmly punched "41" and in a few seconds, DFW NonStop showed up as channel "41-3." I then tried "5" again and it worked perfectly.

Readers of this board are, I suspect, among the elite few who would know to try "41" when "5" doesn't work (not to mention why) ;D

Unfortunately.

We see this with unfortunate frequency, where TVs "lose their scan". We tell them "try punching in 10. For an obscure technical reason that often works. If it does, do a channel scan & we'll come in on channel 4 like we're supposed to.*" Turns out at least half the time, we're right.

I take it 5 is the only station your TV lost?

* I'm in Nashville where 10 and 4 do go together -- of course in DFW it would be 35 and 4...
