Sometimes Salem is so slow

I have been checking the Fish's new web address and they have yet to update the logo in almost a week since exclusively going 103.9fm.

I noted this on the below thread. The only answer I can see is - engineer Dave here isn't the webmaster, or it'd be fixed. :D

It doesn't really make a lot of sense here. We talked about this when the Fish initially added (almost silently) the 94.3 simulcast, but it turns out that was more temporary than we thought.

This time, the 103.9 signal has been promoted on the air since it was added, and, unless we're missing something here, is the new "permanent" (and sole) home for KKFS.

Maybe Dave should print out this thread and put it on the PD and the webmaster's desks? ;)

Engineer Dave is not the webmaster. In fact the 'in house' webmaster is not the 'webmaster'. The Fish's website is hosted and more or less controlled by the internet division of Salem - The Salem Web Network (SWN). The local group has next to no control over it due to internal politics. SWN has missed their own deadlines on the new site a few times. Most recently we were told 'we have a few projects that are taking priority at this time.'

Everyone here is aware of the situation, and needless to say we are not happy with it.

Salem's Load of Crap

This is not aimed at you, "ITDude" (and thanks for joining us, btw!)...

But how hard can it be to upload a new logo?

We're not talking a site overhaul here. We're talking one or two graphics files!

Here, this is the filename of the current top logo:

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.thefish.cc/gr/Homepage/logo.jpg>http://www.thefish.cc/gr/Homepage/logo.jpg</a>

How difficult could it be for Salem's in-house web people in Camarillo to replace that with a logo that reflects the new frequency? I'm sure you folks already have the graphics file to replace it.

If it's *that* mired in corporate stuff, Salem needs more help than I thought they did...

And if it were me, I'd upload the file to them, or attach it to an E-Mail or something, and demand to know why my radio station's website still has the incorrect frequency on it. They managed to fix KTKZ's site the day the frequency changed...and presumably, you guys would get more attention from Camarillo than they would!

Sorry...again, not aimed at you, but I'm amazed Salem corporate lets this happen.

Actually we are revamping the whole site. I designed it and sent it to them over a month prior to the frequency change. It involves much more then one or two graphic files. This revamp is something I've been threatening to do for a long time. I also did the revamps on KTKZ.com and KFIA.com. Both involved SWN and both took far longer then they should have. But our hands are effectively tied on this. Unfortunately, all I'm able to do is complain.

I want you to know that I appreciate your passion on this. And in an effort to inspire more passion from you here is the latest from our contact at SWN: "I did speak to the programmer about the site today and he has assured me that it will be ready to go by 11/1." I think that's the fifth deadline that THEY have set.

Good luck to you on that. :D

I realize the site is "more than just a graphics file", but if it's going to be now THREE WEEKS before the new site goes up, can't you convince them to change at least the one logo? Or put up a small banner separate from the body of the site saying "Now on 103.9!"? If the new site were a few days away, it'd be one thing, but I'm assuming it won't even be up by their latest imposed deadline.

So, you have probably another month or two in which your own website is telling listeners that you're on 105.5. It's ridiculous.

Thank you for your insight into things, and here's hoping you're surprised sooner, rather than later, by your corporate folk.

Oh I agree that it's ridiculous! As do many of our listeners, and staff. The reason KTKZ's logo was changed so quickly was because our National PD (for the News Talk stations) got involved. He made it happen. Unfortunately, our National PD for the Fish is either not as involved or for whatever reason – has not had as much success. Yes he has been alerted to the situation, as have both our local PD and GM.

Our web host has the new logo. They had it a month prior to the frequency change. I'd put it up myself... but I don't have full access to the homepage, only bits and pieces.

My contact at SWN did say in a prior email 'We have a few projects from corporate that are taking priority at this time. I apologize for the delay but please know that we are doing all that we can.'

A few people here are not too convinced of that, because the Atlanta Fish station apparently recently had a revamp of their site – but they didn't have a frequency change... Take from that what you will.

I believe I have exhausted all solutions I have to this issue except one. The ol' "squeaky wheel" tactic. If enough people email us complaining about the website, we will forward it to people higher up the food chain - our VP's and National PD's. If they get enough complaints, things may start to happen.

Email your complaints to '[email protected]'.

Otherwise thank you for your concern.
