Song heard on Mike FM

Around 4:00PM today, Karen Blake was on Mike FM, supposedly talking with a listener and playing his 5 favorite songs. She gave a name to the feature, but I don't recall what it was.

Anyhow, the station played "Switch" by Will Smith during this segment. I don't think that any other Jack station would be caught dead playing this song. Switch is a song that would fit perfectly on Star, but on Mike it just sounds incredibly out of place.

as has been posted previously, NOTHING is out of place on a station such as "Mike" or "Jack" or whomever. that's the beauty of it. the format is simply SFS (Selector's Favorite Songs). if it's round and has a hole in the middle of it, it's fair game to be played.

Karen must have received a sweet severance package, as she has some taped liners that play on the station.

Maybe if the format works they'll get someone to do mornings or drive shifts?

Witness what I heard @ 8:45 this morning - Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying" (the CMA record and song of the year) followed by Kylie Minouge. That's the 1st time I heard a country song on Mike.

I have also heard that song on WZID in Manchester (yes I know it is an AC station and not a Variety Hit format.) It is on the R&R's AC chart so I am wondering if this is because it is more because the song is a 'crossover' song than being a 'just country' song.

This song even crossed over to mainstream top 40. It placed on the mainstream top 40 chart (in the 30's) and it was played on Kiss 108 - about 200 total plays during 2005.
