Song played on the old Top-40 WNOX

Back in the mid-60's when WNOX was a freat frat-party Top-40, they used to play a song that went "If you don't work, you don't eat..." Anyone know who the artist was and the actual title? I tried to email Johnny Pirkle, who was there at the time, but received no reply.

That was James Brown singing with backup singer Marva Whitney. It was sometimes called "Gotta Get A Job." I think David Bowie might have done it in concert for a while.

A lot of James Brown's non hits got airplay in Knoxville because he owned a radio station here and came to town frequently. Usually to pay the taxes before the station got auctioned off.

Cool! I'll have to locate that one.
WNOX was in its own category back then...

That is the song... but it was sung by someone else. Wasn't a hopped-up JB duet, more Stax-y sounding.

The one I remember was "You Got To Have A Job" by James Brown - it was either made in 1966 or 1967. Even though I lived south central NC, WNOX used to boom in most nights except during bad weather. In high school then, my best friends and I were hooked on the 99'ers.
