Almost all of those songs were on the radio in Boston in the 80's, mostly on Kiss 108.

that's Nolan Thomas..as well as the Jonzun Crew (pack jam)

most of these songs you listed were heavily influenced from NYC radio..especially WKTU and WBLS. most of the freestyle/dance stuff at least. planet rock is straight up NY.

as for miami only stuff..

i'd bring up miami bass. WEDR (back when it was starforce 99) played a heck of a collection from artists like Luke Skyywalker/J Grey/Mc Shy D..there were songs like the cabbage patch/old mcdonald had a farm (smurf song)/bass that started in miami/throw that D. buncha stuff like that. a lot of people think Power 96 had that...and they did although they covered the 'end' of that sound in the early 90s. real old schoolers know that WEDR was the rock that transmitted that new raw sound.

on the other end of the spectrum..stations like Hot 105 introduced me to the world of dance music. that mid 80s NYC club sound was straight outta hot 105. with tracks from alisha(all night passion). TKA(one way love). shannon(let the music play).

I remember that raw sound of 'STARFORCE-99' back in the day. I didn't listen to it much because it just wasn't my style of music, but also its signal was rather raw back then. I think they were operating at 50,000 watts or even less than that back then. They didn't even cover the fringes of their listening area such as Homestead (where I live). 2 Live Crew were mixed with static !

I picked-up on the 'HOT-105' dance sound during their final (post-Bill Tanner) year of 1988 when they had mixed in hard rock to their playlist and become a traditional TOP 40 station with a tight playlist. Even during that final year they were one fine station. They were so fine that I abandoned Y-100 at the time. Once they went urban in 1989 I went back home to the 'Y'.
