Walked into the shop at work this morning at 3:25 AM and WLS-FM started playing
Shama Lamma Ding Dong by Otis Day and the Nights. ( written and actually sung by Lloyd Williams )
I have been playing this for a LONG time on my part 15, and figured it was good song,
but not likely to ever be played on a commercial station. I play a good deal of music off the beaten path.
So what's happened? This song is from Animal House. 1979. It was written for the movie.
Naturally it sounds like 1963, but here it is now, mixed in with 1960s oldies on a great big market station.
What has happened?
I like it, but still think it's something I wouldn't have ever expected.
What will be next? More off the beaten path, or more movie "oldies"?
ARE there any other movie-born "oldie originals" that could stand up on their own musically as well as Shama Lama Ding Dong?
