Songs that plummet off a station's playlist?

One example of this is 96.5 The Buzz, which played the song "Simmer" by Hayley Williams 55 times for the week of 3/28-4/3, and was the station's most played song. It was also highest in the "Aud" category for audience reached in millions. It was even played 7 times (I counted) on Friday 4/3 on their Tunegenie. Then, on Saturday 4/4, it was played 0 times, and was never played again on the station. Has anyone else seen this and what could be behind this?

As I recall, Bernadette Peters' cover of "Gee Whiz" was flying up the chart in 1980 and suddenly dropped from #31 to something like #96! The following week, it dropped off completely and was never heard again! I thought it was going to be a hit. I liked it better that Carla Thomas' original version.

One that stands out in my mind was "Traveling Soldier" by the Dixie Chicks. It was #1 in the country chart the very week that their lead singer said she was embarrassed to be from the same state as president bush. Boom! The song fell like a rock.
