I was thinking the same thing about the Ting Tings - trying to picture it on rhythmic radio in my mind.
I'm glad that T-shirt song disappeared, and I'm glad that many of the hip hop songs from 2006-2008 disappeared from outside of mix show play. I doubt hip hop will quickly be able to recover from those 2005 to about 2008 songs that pushed me away from hip hop and back to top 40 and even alternative for a while. The "I'm so fly" Grind Mode song probably deserved more national attention. It was a good song. I heard it on Power 96 from Miami last night.. It's a nice 120 bpm song. If I had it, I would've probably mixed it with "drifter" or something..
I love the Asia Cruise song - the Danny Dubbz remix of "selfish" of course! I'm glad that was massive all over the UK last year, although I was probably the only one here with that vinyl version and no one played it here. I bet it would've worked if that version were given a chance here, along with the uk 4x4 / garage version of "save room" by John Legend. UK people have such good taste in music. Glad that BBC is on Sirius.
With that being said, Craig David should be getting a lot more attention now, and so should Girls Aloud and Sam Sparro and Cahill and T2 ft Jodie Aysha Jodie.
The Lil Rob "let me come back", I don't care fore, although I believe Lil rob deserves the recognition he's been able to obtain. He knows rhythm and music and how to put things together to make it sound good and work.
I love Tami Chynn for her style, and E40's "wake it up" is just a good track all together.
"Playin my love by Rockell and "when I want you back" by Joe Zangie ft Wendy probably would have made some noise or at least been regional if given a chance.
"Hey baby" I didn't see lasting too long, even though I was hoping it would. The moment I heard the beat at 136 bpm, I knew people's minds would close up a bit... but that wont last long - as the close minded generation are now becoming the parents and now the younger generation is being born into this "new" sound of dance and bass/electro styled beats, so it's normal to them and therefore since it's normal, they are open to it.
I'm certainly glad that "superstar" was highly rated and played. It stood out, not only because of it's good rhythm, but also because it was one of the only hip hop songs with sensible lyrics at the time it was released. Yes, a lot of music has creativity, but it can be creatively done while still being dumb, which was the case for a while, but I see things changing now...
They started to play September in September here, but it died before it was even October. I was just as disappointed about that as I was when the David Guetta record disappeared around the same time. At least the Latin Rhythm station (KVIB) kept playing David Guetta and aslo let everyone know where Akon sampled "right now (na na na)" from.
"Break the ice" by Britney was a good song. I enjoyed it much more than I'm enjoying "circus", but I loved Shawty Lo's "dey know" more than both of those.
Too bad C-Side's "boyfriend / girlfriend" didn't get nearly the attention it deserved, and sorry Nina Sky tried with "get your clothes off" and no one outside of the Latin Rhythm station really cared. Gee, thank goodness for the urban/rhythmic spanish stations!
Also, I think Chantelle Paige should have been more recognized, and Melissa Lujan is a talent people are missing out on.
