Songs You Remember And Like But Never Get Played

The short, cut-down version of "Light My Fire" on AM was the "hit". The uncut album version was on underground radio, and was therefore "underground" music. All of Led Zeppelin's early albums were "underground" music.

I always preferred the album version of "Light My Fire" over the 45 edit. That also goes for "Beginnings" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Diana Ross. The radio edits are too short, so chopped up!

Memories!
Growing up I listened to WSAR (1480) AM in Fall River Massachusetts in the early 70's.
My favorite time to listen was after midnight (early Monday). The engineers would take over and do all the tweaking and adjustments to the board and transmitter. To help them, they would put on whole album sides such as Iron Butterfly and just let it track all the way through. You never knew what you'd hear on any particular Sunday night. This was a rockin' AM station in it's day. Other notable stations of the same period were WAAF (107.3) in Worcester, WBZ-FM (106.7) in Boston, WCOZ (94.5) in Boston and WBCN (104.1) in Boston. The only current station that comes close is WZLX (100.7) in Boston. Between all of them I have a list of never-heard-again tracks that would crash this server. All excellent songs from everyone! here are just a very few of mine:

The Hollies: Magic Woman Touch/ Long dark road
The Tarney-Spencer Band - No time to lose
Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Living without you
Fischer Z - So Long
Head East - Never been any reason
Mike Kennedy - Louisiana
Grin - White lies
The Rascals - The midnight hour
Eric Burdon - Sky Pilot
The Chambers Brothers - Time has come today (album track)
The Doors - When the music's over (11:08)
Yes- And you and I
White Bird - It's a beautiful day
Savoy Brown - Tall Mama
Quick Silver Messenger Service - Fresh Air
The Band - Chest Fever
Lighthouse - One Fine morning

I'll add more if the topic gets lively and continues..

I downloaded the Chambers Brothers Time has come today on my cell phone. Last time I heard that on the radio was on 98.9 Austin's Greatest Hits.
Ever heard of the YES covering the Simon and Garfunkel tune "America"?

I used to use Ina-Gadda-Da-Vida as my ring tone, but it took me 17½ minutes to answer the phone. Most folks had hung up by then.
