Songs you'd like to hear covered

What songs would you like to hear new versions of, and in which genre?

I would like to hear a new version of my all-time favorite recording "Broken Hearted Me" by Anne Murray. A very sad-mood song composed by Randy Goodrum, it borders on being depressing and is extremely powerful as such in the capable voice of Anne Murray and the record's producer Jim Ed Brown. Sometimes I think there is a thin line between deep sadness and anger. I'd like to hear a take of this song done by, let's say, Linkin' Park.

How about you?

Sure, it could be part of a whole Linkin Park Anne Murray tribute album ... Snowbird, Danny's Song, Could I Have This Dance, A Little Good News, makes perfect sense.

Seriously, I don't get it. It just seems like a totally random pairing of song and artist. I mean, why not have The Game cover it? Or Mumford and Sons? Or Lady GaGa? Why not have Linkin Park cover "Betcha By Golly Wow" or "Honey" or "Message to Michael"?

Thank you for catching my mistake. I should have looked more closely. Oh well, at least I got the "Jim Ed" part right. I wasn't thinking randomly or of being incongruous just for the heck of it. "Snowbird" and the others would be only laughable in the hands of Linkin' Park. I picked "Broken Hearted Me" due to the closeness of sadness and despair to anger. Now, "A Little Good News" is a very interesting song. It stood out amongst the other things playing on Country radio in 1983 due to its meaningful content. If there ever is to be a cover, I think some of the "Nu-Folk" artists might do it justice, such as Mumford and Sons or the Lumineers... and The Decemberists. Updates to some of the issues covered might also be something to put into the mix.

None, why remake originals or have new versions? Today's artists should be able to come up with new material, if not then there's a big problem in the music world.

"Back in Time" by Pitbull is one of the more recent songs, using "Love is Strange" as the backdrop. A so-so song.

I suppose there can be some exceptions made, but really, today's writers and artists need to come up with new material.

Agreed. Now I can think of plenty of oldies I wish other artists back then covered, but no one today really.

There never should have been a cover version of We Are The World!

Next you'll bring up Madonna's version of American Pie!

Thinking about all the anger, angst, inner strength and self-confidence that Taylor Swift has expressed in song, I'd like to hear her remake Loretta Lynn's Fist City, You Ain't Woman Enough, Wings Upon Your Horns and/or Cheatin' On A Cheater.

Mariah Carey should have never covered "I'll Be There" in the 90's......Jackson 5 is much better.

Irritating...and yet their first four singles went to number one on both the Hot 100 and the r&b chart. And the Jackson 5 had 20 consecutive top-ten hits on the r&b chart! Of course those were the years when Michael was still black and still had his original nose. :D

Especially since even the original version has become so unpopular in recent years! And making the remake into a Michael Jackson tribute (while dissing all of the still-living artists from the original who could have returned) showed just what a farce "We Are the World 2010" really was!

I remember all the hype leading up to it (the remake, that is) on all the newsmagazine shows, then when it was released? Nothing! No airplay at all!

Since (nearly) everyone involved with it donated their time, it probably still could have been considered a success if it sold anything at all. At least we were spared from hearing it on the radio for months on end!

Seems like there was also a remake of "Do They Know It's Christmas" about five years after the original, but I have not heard it in recent years.

I wish I could make a decent reply here.....but with so many classic songs out there, yet IMO *no* current artists worth touching them......well......

I admit, I do like some of the humorous responses here.....

I actually have regretted my serious post (Eminem doing Subterranean Homesick Blues) and wish I'd simply replied:

"Covered in what?"
