Bad Company did a great cover version of "Young Blood" back in the '70s. Even had that great reverb sound that you hear on so many '50s-era recordings. But it gets almost NO airplay now! :'(

I have an air check somewhere of Larry Lujack playing that on WCFL when it was popular.

they also started the red bird label and had a few charted hits before the bellied-up, or were obsorbed..shan-gri-las, dixie cups and jellyneans...and spawned Blue cat records from red- bird and recorded the ad-libs on blue cat.

This is really sad to hear. The Leiber and Stoller songs were little "stories" in 2 and 1/2 minutes or less. Jerry had a rich history in the music business. And that's an understatement. He will be missed greatly. Thank you for the music, Jerry. RIP.

Leiber and stoller were established hitmakers in LA...when Atlantic records..begged/bribed them to come to NY and set-up shop in the Brill building....can you imagine the already superstar writing teams in the Brill Building:

greenfield/sedaka
barcarach/david
mann/weil
giffin/king
greenwich and barry
bert berns
pomus/shuman
boyce and hart

and then add Leiber and Stoller..OMG,,, no wonder the Brill Building is considered scared ground...
