I pulled into a Sonic Drive In in Hawkins, Texas, and while I was munching on my Tropical Island Burger, I was listening to Sonic FM piped in on the loud speakers there. They had live jocks, and even solicited requests from listeners. I thought this was interesting in that they were taking phone calls. I believe the service is based out of San Angelo, Texas of all places.

I remember going into a Walmart here in Bedford one night and hearing the exact same kind of thing. Don't think they took any calls but they were reading e-mails from people, listeners I guess, and talking to Walmart employees on the air. I think they had a country format. They've since stopped airing it (in my Walmart anyway) and I'm not sure if it's around anymore.

Channing,

Actually, that would be a pretty good gig....If we could get some free slushes and cherry limeade. And the liner cards....can you just imagine what you could say on those liners......

OK, I think this is a job for Edward R. Murrow to come up with the liners, and song selection

I'd have a BLAST with the liners....although Sonic is a family place, I'd get canned ASAP. Oh well, nothing new there I guess. ;)<P ID="signature">______________

And people say there's nothing happening in Hawkins, Texas.

It seems commonplace these days for many of the big chains to run their own in house "radio stations" to pipe in music. K-Mart has been doing it for years, as has Walgreens, and Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart also uses their piped in information for employee information. If you go into Wal-Mart early enough in the morning, you will hear a nationwide meeting being piped throughout the store every day.

Years ago, I was in a Montgomery Ward store enjoying WARD Radio :)

A little on the corny side.
