Sonics Radio

I've read that Kevin Calabro will only do TV next year. What are the Sonics plans for radio?
Just my opinion, but Kevin Calabro is the best NBA play-by-play broadcaster going, on radio that is.

Ironic that Calabro is ending his radio play-by-play for the Sonics, while he's been notably absent on recent Sunday broadcasts in order to do other games for ESPN (wait for it)..... RADIO!!

Sonics Network versus ESPN Radio. Do you really think there's a comparison?

OK so who's got the inside track on getting the Entercom Sonics PBP gig next season? Would they bring somebody in from out of market or is there some hot talent lurking in Seatown ready to make the move?

KJR's David Locke would obviously love the job. He does Seattle Storm PBP .. and the hosting chores on the Sonics pre-&-post game coverage.
Mike Gastineau has done the job on a fill-in basis ... as has FSN's Brian Davis,
who came to Seattle for the Seahawks radio PBP.
But I don't think any of the three would have the inside track.

Please God, not David Locke...listening to his shrill histrionics is like chewing on foil.

New Sonics Radio Anncr

It'll either be:

Dave Harshman, Jerome Kersey, John MacLeod, Tim McCormick,
Chuck Person or Steve Scheffler

Don't live near Seattle. Who is Dave Harshman? Of the other five, one is a former coach and the others former players. Doubt that any are ready to do PBP.
Hot Rod Hundley made the transition, though.

Hot Rod Hundley "made the transition" ...but to my mind, is a very acquired taste. Having listened to him on a number of Jazz broadcasts I couldn't take him on a fulltime basis.
Which is to say .. spare us the ex-players as PBP GUY. Leave them the color role, and give us a good experienced broadcaster who has worked his way up.
Brian Davis might be highly adequate ..

I remember Brian's work in Chicago. Yes, excellent PBP man.

So now six weeks after the speculation ... we learn it will be David Locke.According to the P.I., he won out over FSN's Brian Davis, and Brian Wheeler of the TrailBlazers radio.Be interesting to see how Calabro changes his style doing TV-only, when he doesn't have to tell us everything.

WOW - From Bob Blackburn to Kevin Calabro and now.... Locke. Sonic fans have always had a special relationship with the man behind the mic calling the games. Best wishes Locke !
