I was talking to a friend in the market who told me KYXY's Sonny West has not been on the air since last week. Word is he had a heart attack. Anyone know his condition or how he's doing? Is he coming back? He's one of the "old guard" in San Diego along with Sam Bass and Gene Knight. Would be a drag to lose another one of the good guys.

I had my heart attack and emergency five-way bypass a few years back and spent 11 days on the hospital so it's hard to imagine getting up in the pre-dawn hours to do a radio show so soon after the cardiac event: good luck Sonny Greg.

Any word when Sonny West will return to KYXY? Media Hack have you heard anthing? Originally I thought it was going to be one week but it's over two now. The show misses him.

I read somewhere that he decided he needed another week. As I noted above, I was kind of surprised that he had originally planned to go back so soon and the way these things knock the wind out of you, it's hard to predict when your stamina is going to be back to the point where you can do something like a morning radio show (which leaves you feeling like a zombie even when you haven't had a cardiac event).

I called a friend at KYXY yesterday and was told that Sonny was doing much better and that he would be back to work next week. Sonny, take care of yourself!
Caught KYXY streaming this morning and Sonny West is back. It;s nice to hear him back on the air. I've always thought KYXY and their morning show do a nice job.
