CNBC and Yahoo are reporting that Viacom and Sony have made a tentative deal for the former to offer live-streaming of its cable channels on Sony's yet-to-be-launched internet TV service. This is completely different from the TV Eeverywhere concept where you need a subscription of a participating TV provider in order to view channels live via computers, smartphone, and gaming consoles. This bypasses the established TV providers, and offers the live channels directly to subscribers who want it.
Sony already offers its Entertainment Network service on Playstation consoles, its newer Blu-ray and DVD players, and on its own streaming media players, and I would guess that it'll be merged into Sony's future internet TV service. Get ready for more cord-cutting, folks...
