Sony Movie Channel?

There's an article on B&C about Sony Movie Channel announcing schedule additions. It was written as if many of us had a general idea of what this Sony Movie Channel was in the first place. It's listed as a "multiplatform" network, which I would think includes cable, but I don't think even FiOS carries it. Is it on satellite?

In a lot of other countries (i.e. regional markets), there is a "Sony Channel". In Europe, I believe that it focuses on movies. In Latin America, the Sony Channel is a general entertainment network which shows reruns of popular sitcoms and other shows. Not unlike TBS, though they do - or at least did recently - have rights to some first run episodes of US shows. Those shows are usually in English with Spanish subtitles.

There's also an Indian version, which I believe is also available in the US -- never seen it, though at the least they have original programming.

Mostly second-rate movies from the 1980's. I recently saw "Sheena" starring
Tanya Roberts on there. Good for a two-hour long drinking game of trying to
guess whether Ms. Roberts was wearing any underwear beneath those animal skins.

Yup...it's called Sony Entertainment Television (SET). Available on Dish Network and I would guess DirecTV.

Actually, the whole primetime schedule of the Latin Sony channel is filled with new shows - and this has been like this since the channel was launched in the mid nineties. Reruns of somewhat recent shows are shown on afternoons and reruns of older shows (The Nanny, Mad about you, Married with Children...) are dumped very early on the morning. They show, however, literally zero movies.

Neat... So now that's FOUR networks (TBS, TV Land, FX - which I don't believe does so anymore) that air "Married With Children"... ::)

Comcast/Xfinity in Houston carries this channel amongst its international offerings.

Yes, the Indian version. But I doubt that you see much of the Spanish version because a lot of the shows on Sony Entertainment Television (thanks for the reminder of the correct name) are first-run and they do not have the US rights to air them here.

By the way Eduardo, your post really did not need to correct what I said - I believe I indicated that they air a lot of first-run US programming. My use of TBS as an analog may not have been 100% on target, though there are many similarities. And, Sony's 'first run' programming is sometimes one season old - but *new* to Latin American audiences (at least the ones who can't get US networks). It depends on the series.
