Sony -XDR -10HDiPod

I purchased this Sony unit at a local Best Buy for $159 plus tax. I was looking for an I-Pod docking unit with good sound for my wife's I-Pod. Also, the unit had an audio input mini-plug jack for a CD player, a nice feature The audio sound for its twin 3 inch speakers had clear midrange smooth treble and some mid-bass. The FM tuner for analog stereo was very good. I live about 30 miles south of Boston. The AM tuner was not good. Only could receive strong signals. Also, this unit does FM and AM HD. When I could receive HD the unit sounded good on FM. I was able to receive Boston FM stations from the 2 main sites ;the Pru tower in Boston, and the 128 Antenna farm in surburban Needham, Mass. What was surprising was that some stations on both sites had strong HD signals , and others no trace of HD,but with still very strong analog stereo and RDS. I could get WODS, WJMN,WZLX, WXKS,WKLB with HD. I could not getting any HD from WMJX, WROR. I would sometimes lock WTTK,WBCN 104 and WBMX 98.5 but not always.
WGBH from Milton was very strong and locked easy.I was using the suppiled wire T-wipe antenna.AM HD did not work . WBZ 1030 AM and Disney 1260AM flashed the HD indicator but would not lock. WBZ sounded much better on WODS-FM HD3.This unit may use the same FM circuits as Sony XDR-!FM. Look forward to other comments.

How far away do you live from Boston and How far do you live from the radio towers? I live near Los Angeles and the best I can do with my Insignia HD radio is 92.3 FM and 104.3 KBIG. We went to our local Farmers Market and as I was trying to receive singals with the radio and I was able to get 104.3 KBIG. I was able to get the HD indicator to flash but I didn't get a lock on the singal. The towers for the main Los Angeles stations are about 45 miles away from where I live. We have 2 local stations that broadcast in HD but they only offer HD channels for their regular stations so it doesn't help much.
