Sophi Getting some Energy

SDRadio.net and radioinsight.com are reporting that it is verry likely that "Sophie," KSCF (103.7, will be changing format to something called "Energy 103.7," as energy1037.com was registered to CBS, and CBS applied for the calls KEGY for the station.

When it first started out, from all reports, "Sophie" was an adventurous Modern AC/AAA hybrid. But thanks to that great wonder of wonders *sarcastic face*, the PPM, "Sophie" has become less and less adventurous, so that now, she just wanders in a sea of boring music.

I checked the KSCF online stream just now to see if "Sophie" is still there, and she is.

Charlie Quinn now seems to have spent half his life trying to figure out what to do with 103.7.

Didn't the Sophie programmer just get some big award for her work with this format?

I'll believe it when I hear it! Remember when they did that AMP radio 1037 stunt? There was an AMP radio 1037 link
and when you clicked on it you got Sophie? I'm hoping it's not another silly stunt. It seems like their stunts just don't
work! They did that "Big announcement" a couple of years back (I think I remember it was also with Jack-FM), and it only
turned out to be some sort of concert ticket giveaway. And who can remember the infamous K-Surf oldies stunt? I really
hope this is a real format change and not another desperate attempt get more ratings!

Not sure about their billing but their ratings are not so hot. Although I like the station it reminds me of the early days of KYSR in Los Angeles. If indeed a flip my money is on CHR with a Rhythmic lean which makes sense.

Well, its almost April's Fools Day 2012, so anything can happen. I agree it'll either be a Top 40 with a Rhythmic lean or a pure Rhythmic Top 40 with a Dance lean.

We'll know soon enough. The station is telling listeners to tune in at 5PM today. I'll be away from the computer at that time, since it's in the Pacific timezone, so if someone could let me know what's up, I'd appreciate it.

We can only hope it's a rhythmic/dance outlet, but I have heard of "Energy" stations that end up being a standard CHR, nothing too exciting. Hopefully we're wrong in this case.

Wow, with jargon like this, it's gonna be great!

"...combine the power of its on-air position with myriad online and digital applications creating a full 360-degree audio and visual experience for teens and Adults 18-34."

Bet whomever wrote that had a hard time keeping a straight face - well let's hope so anyway, because if they actually believe that kind of BS, then this will have as short a lifespan has all the other 103 dot 7 formats of the last umpteen years.

::)

That's a lot of CHR stations. We got Channel 933, Q96, Z-90,and now Energy 1037? The next question. Is "Energy"
a mainstream CHR like Channel and Q-96? or is it Rhythmic-leaning like Z-90?

An earlier post intimates that there'll be "10,000 in a row" - similar to other CBS Radio CHR launches such as AMP in L.A. and 92.3 Now in NYC.

Besides the station website radio.com link, listen live via:

It's nice of CBS to give this station launch the full treatment, considering they are finally about to sell the cluster. This will not be the end of the Sophie/Energy news. Probably why they aren't using the Amp branding.
