We were driving back to Broward County from Ocala today & I noticed that WAFC 590 Clewiston (and its 250w 100.5 FM) is not Spanish Radio Fiesta, but is running Christmas music in English from something called The Christmas Channel.

A flip in the works? (WAFC-FM 106.1 Okeechobee did not flip, and I believe it was the same R Fiesta Spanish programming; likely 106.1 has a workable signal in Clewiston, across the Lake.)

I am posting this to the Tampa board too, because for years WAFC 590 had a CP to move to Cape Coral---is that still kosher? (100.5 would be fine serving Clewiston.)

From Clewiston to Cape Coral? Talk about polar opposites (and I'm not just referring to geography, either).

It's still "kosher". WAFC-AM 590 is showing in the FCC database as having an active application to change COL to Cape Coral with 5kw-U, DA-1 using 4-towers. The previous CP has long since expired.

Wow, a new DA-1!
The only ones I know of still in existence are WBZ, WWL, and the Christian Good Guys of WMCA.
WOR was one until just recently.
I am also fascinated by such rare anomalies as San Diego's KFMB, 5 KW-D & 50 KW-N.

Interesting. During my listening, a female voice said something like "Welcome home," which *could* mean a return to country music on Dec 26, or maybe classic country if a move to Cape Coral comes to pass. I think 590 has been Regional Mexican the last 8 years or so. I do think there may be a country "void" there for now, as 1570/100.9 Okeechobee doesn't serve Clewiston well for 24 hours. But don't read into my post....just a thought.

AM 950 Chicago also operates with more power at night than it does during the day with 1kw-D and 5kw-N.

WOBM in NJ I think runs something like 5K day, 8.9K sparks nights. Had them last week at night in St. Augustine as a matter of fact. My first Jersey station from FL.

WOBM was at 1170 until 1988. They are still directional to the south to protect 1160 in Bridgewater that was also on 1170 before both moved to 1160.

WOBM was originally a daytimer as WHLW to protect WWVA. There was a spot just north that you could see the towers and null so you couldn't receive the station.(4 towers)

After the upgrade they kept the 5kw (?) and pushed 8.6kw south. I have tried from time to time over the last 23 years to pick them up in Florida, but the post here by TerryKay is the first I've heard of it being done. Good job.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

For some reason known only to cd637299, there is an identically named thread about WAFC on the Miami page... Maybe he should've just opened the thread in Florida rather than two identical threads. Confusing.
