Sorry, but mornings are painful in ATL...

and Neal Boortz has saved me from driving off the road. Can't we get some true talent, personalities AND good music? Where's YvonneMonet? Pull her from retirement and partner her up with a dude of equal skills. Get Mara back on mornings...move Margot...anything!! Please!

Come on people. I love Neal, but hours of talk radio is gonna cause me to drink (more).

TRG are as good as morning radio gets, is that not enough for you?

Everytime I've tuned in to Boortz this year he's been talking about his knee surgery. It's frequent enough to base a drinking game on, it really takes the edge off and makes you realise you're listening to old people radio.

Boortz has gotten tired...he is starting to sound like an old phart. Kids in restaurants, wants the government off of HIS back but ON the backs of teenagers, wants to legalize dope but gets his panties in a wad when a 20 year old has a beer...I'm almost 41 and he's finally left me behind. Put Chris Krok back on the air. Ralph from Ben Hill, Royal, somebody. Put the edge back in talk radio!

He's starting to sound like just another tired, self-righteous baby boomer (present company excepted, of course :) )

Although he will likely be on WSB as long as he sells the spots, I think he's finally jumped the shark.

He said that he wanted to stick around for Hillary to get elected...that may never happen now.

What special kind of crack are you smoking to think these Lex & Terry wannabes are as good as it gets?

"""'Put Chris Krok back on the air. Ralph from Ben Hill, Royal, somebody. Put the edge back in talk radio!""""

If this is your idea of putting an edge back in talk radio you need to get our more.

Talk radio in the morning is one thing, but we also need a decent morning show with our music stations as well. Since TRG don't play music during their show per se, I'm counting them in with the talk radio shows. Personally, I'd like to see Randy & Spiff back on with the oldies.

More music, Zakk Tyler morning show TRG are Lex and Terry rip-offs, wow how original. Heard tht before. Last time I checked are L & T on in Atlanta?

Easy pickings for Cox with S&V. Taking this market in mornings can be a two book cake-walk for B98.5 IF they come back and: 1. Exceed the expectations of their fan base 2. Evolve material to be less dependent on last nights TV and ET headlines, etc. (use the website for some of this). 3. Be less dependent on a very tired playlist of "never need to hear again" AC pabulum. 4. Tap their local info, mother ship (AM750) for relevant 25-54 content - be smart, not silly. You can bet Steve has been listening to morning radio and has a new perspective going into this. Cox has outstanding research backing their plan too.

Dave had a shot at scoring some solid numbers to match great qualitative. ZT turned out to be no match for TRG or NPR’s Morning Edition for that matter (check sharing between Dave/ABE if you have the data. Surprised?)

Ideas: Move ZT to the Falcons as player reporter - he sounds at home with sports. Get Mara to one subject per break, and please kill the themed lunch where you play crap to be cute.

Love to hear Margo in Mornings with a solid Ray Mariner style sidekick. Oh, one more, ever notice that Dave's traffic reporter Denzil starts EVERY report with "Allrightie....." who's air-checking over there?

Who's heard of Lex and Terry?

I have, unfortunately. They're on WCHZ-FM 95 Rock in Augusta. I still don't understand why they're so popular. On the other hand, TRG are not my favorites, either, but I do respect them that they've got a very strong fan base and are getting the job done.

Speaking of L&T: Weren't they on 96Rock before TRG came around, or were they one of the replacements? I know Bob & Tom (blech) were between TRG 1.0 and 2.0 IIRC.

L & T did a couple of shows during the Chris Rude "vacation weeks" that preceded John Boy and Billy. That officially marked the unraveling of the station. Even though TRG propped it up for awhile that is when things changed.

L&T were on 96 Rock for about a week on a trial basis. We all know morning shows rip material off from each other, and TRG have done it with L&T. So RTibbs, your issues with "originality" aren't with me or any of the posters here....they should be aimed at TRG, the kings of the borrowed bit.

Dave has had several morning shows that had potential with one good personality but they always blew it by matching them up with wet dishtowels. Mara Davis is great but they had some bland guy with her that just seemed to make even a show with Mara boring. Even the Barnes era had the same problem. Barnes is a good radio personality and the show could have been a strong local presence but they paired him up with a bland monotone who regularly stumbled script reading. It was painful. Maybe the idea was a Larry-Moe dynamic but there has to be some compelling interaction between personalities.
They seem to have a good show finally with Zakk but now they're up against a well oiled TRG :'(

I listen to them when I travel and be honest don't care for them. Who annointed them this king of the original bits.

Can you give us some specific examples of original Tex and Larry bits stolen by TRG?

I know the L&T format very well... used to read news for them before they were even syndicated, there stuff gets tired after a while.. but I don't listen to the RG's so I can't help you about stealing bit's... but I agree about Neal Boortz.. if it's not one surgery or another it's about flying his airplane, and I have to say being married to a pilot (not a private pilot, a real ATP- commercial pilot) my husband laughs every time time Neil stats to show his "aviation" intelligence :)

Truth be told.. I know it's not morning drive but I've been listing to 1160 talk of the town-- Dr. Laura, not sure why I do, I don't' agree with a majority of what she says.. but I listen -HA! Having a very long and strong news background I will say I like the station but the news needs help.

Boortz was certificated for multiengine and instrument operation some 15 years ago, and I believe at the time held a commercial license. Few people want to mess with the ATP rating unless they're making their living hauling pax on scheduled routes, because of the time and expense required to keep it current.
When I was selling airplanes, I ran across two types of high time aviators, those who learned something every time they got in the airplane, and those who simply repeated the first hundred hours thirty times or so. I hope your mate falls within the first group.
Boortz aviated in a Beech Duke for some several years, which your mate will tell you indicates pretty good ability to follow procedures and pay attention to what he's doing.
I still don't care much for Boortz' program, but he's safe and sane in the air. As to what he has to say on the radio, that's predicated towards luring listeners.

Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the flight

JennyG, you're a newsreader and your husband's an airline pilot? That is awesome, your house must be a beacon of clear annunciation :)

Boeing and Airbus Industrie have yet to learn the finer points of audio processing. They need to consult Orban or Foti on the proper setup and operation of PA systems in high noise environments.

Here's some trivia for you. Lex & Terry were on 97.1 for exactly 1 day. After Cox blew up Fox 97, they stunted for 3 days, a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Then on Monday morning, they carried Lex & Terry. Then later that morning, they introduced the new 97-1 Jamz.

As far as Boortz, I've always felt the 8:30-9 half hour was a waste. That's before the syndication starts at 9, and he talks almost exclusively about personal things, his plane, his condo, his surgery, what's new with Belinda's kid, etc. His real show starts at 9.
