...but I just wanted to let folks know that former Triad morning man Steve Norris died last month. I didn't know Steve very well, but in 1993 when I was 16 and starting in this "business" he was kind enough to have several conversations with me, and even let me in on some stuff that I probably didn't deserve. He never threw me out of the studio like some other "jocks". RIP Steve. Link below if anyone is interested...

Steve was a kind, introverted man with an awesome voice. Sorry to hear he's passed on.

I worked with Steve in Charlotte at WROQ. He helped me out as I was just starting out in radio. We had swapped several e-mails during his time in Wyoming. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He had a great set of pipes, and more, was a kind and generous person. He liked a good joke. Steve will be greatly missed.

I recall a young morning WPET Steve Norris in 1963 - Super guy - Again in Greensboro at Beasley's WBIG-FM country then stayed when it was WJMH.
A great radio man and a decent person that will be missed.

Sad to hear...
Didn't he work at WTOB in Winston-Salem in the early 70s?

Maybe WAIR...Not TOBBIG APE

Norris did work at WTOB in the early 70s as 13-Music-80's morning dude. I used to listen to him and had the chance to meet him in TOB's studios at the Thruway Shopping Center.

He must have been impersonating either Bill Cox or Russ Spooner..They were the morning jocks in the early 70's
The 13Music 80 Moniker was not used until 1974 and it was replaced in the summer by "Summertime TOB"

5-9 Russ Spooner
9-1 Bob Dale
1-4 Tommy Walker
4-7 Good Buddy Bob Langdon
7-Mid Jefferson Stone
Mid-5 Various

Walker was PD, Bill McQuage News Director, Smith Patterson midday news, Jay McDaniel Fill in and Music Director.
Believe me, I was there..BIGAPE!

Hey APE! Steve was the morning man in 1970! The Dutchman left in the spring of 1969. I can't remember the guy who worked AMD thru the end of the year but Steve was there when it was owned by Southern Broadcasting, not the Jay Woods days. Willie Edwards tell some great Norris stories. He was there!

Wes. Something still ain't fitting here.. I was with Southern Broadcasting those years..John Woods came in after Mike Ludgate, GM left and went to Charlottesville at WCHV... when Southern sold to John and Kay..Woods brought in Charles Westbrook from his sister station WSSB in Durham as GM and fired me in 1974.. I ain't saying someone's lying but we're missing something here??? BIGAPE!

It was John Woods not Jay. I remember listening to Steve in 1970 on WTOB. The guy who replaced Dutchman had a great voice but was real dry. Steve was funny and fit the slot. Southern had Raleigh, Birmingham, Phoenix and I think Steve went to one of those markets. Next time you see W.E. ask him. Dusty Dunn did mornings for a short time also on TOB. Ain't we getting old enough to forget some of this stuff?

Yep, I'm too old to give a damn about any of it!! I do remember, now that I think about it, that Norris was at one of our Southern Stations, WSGN in Birmingham...Another 610...for you BIG WAYS FANS!!!BIGAPE!

Steve Norris was absolutely at WTOB in the early 70's. I believe Ron Powers was the PD. After TOB (not sure if it was right away) he wound up at WSGH/KZL during the Bob Brown days (whose wife just passed away 10/22/09, btw)...then Norris came to WAIR/Z-93 around 1976.

Was that Linda? Is this Norris family any relation to Scott who was on WMIX? Later Oldies.

Linda was Steve Norris' wife at the time, but I was actually referring to the passing of Bob Brown's wife, Jean.
