"Soul Beginnings" on Kiss FM

Been on since Sunday, October 22, 1995, according to this article I found from David Hinckley's N.Y. Daily News radio column:

Follow-up article in December 1995: http://personals.nydailynews.com/ar.../1995-12-02_kiss-mas_spirit_even_more_me.html

In my mind I thought the show had been on longer than that, but I guess not!

The station formally became "KISS-FM" with the gradual change of format to Urban Contemporary & the change of call letters from WXLO to WRKS in August 1981. In 1995 KISS-FM changed to a "classic soul" format, which was the impetus for starting the "Soul Beginnings" program. The station has since morphed into an Urban A/C format, but still has the classic soul/R&B trimmings, with shows such as "Soul Beginnings" & Felix Hernandez's "Rhythm Revue", which airs on Sunday afternoons from Noon-5pm.

Bob Slade has been with WRKS-FM "Kiss" since October 15, 1975 in various news related capacities besides hosting "Soul Beginnings". His is a story of longevity & perseverance, professionally & personally.

He's done all of this while battling renal failure & undergoing dialysis & later a kidney transplant in 2005:
