SOUND 4 PCI AUDIO PROCESSOR

Actually the 1100 does have pre-emphasis,

Yes it does, but like I said, it's not broadcast quality managed...

but no one really needs that anymore. The last few transmitters I've seen have their own plus a stereo generator built in. Granted though Bob Orban has said you don't want to use the 1100 to drive a transmitter without another safety limiter in there.

If the transmitter you are talking about doesn't have a capable, high quality HF limiter, distortion-cancelled clipper and a non-overshooting 15k filtering, than there really is no comparison to a proper FM processor.

The Digiplexer 2/4 is a very impressive and great sounding audio processor. It actually has some fantastic bass enhancement and the clippers on the box can be driven very heavily before they become obnoxious.

The user interface (remote app) is also very well done. The processing block work very well together and I would be hard pressed to really say something bad about it. You can get in trouble with the pre-emphasis limiter... and the AGC (but the AGC does settle in and do a good job once you get a handle on it)... and I am waiting for Audemat to do latency, but other than that, it's a good processor.

What's nice is that the Sound 4 card runs by itself in the box, which is a beefed up PC. Power on to audio is under 5 seconds... Plus the box has RDS and a remote control unit built in.

Sonically it is closer to Orban than Omnia, but it's not smashed up like an Aphex or Omega. The lower bands seem to respond to bass with more punchy thump than rolling tub which is how Optimod "can" sound at times (I happen to like Optimod bass, but for those who like their bass more neutral with a feedback processing design, this may be something for them).

We've had it on at WSHR on Long Island for awhile with no hiccups or burps. In this market it's as good as the Omnia 6's and the 8400 on another station and it can run with the EXI's in NYC. It's more than competitive. Even the 2 band version is impressive

Would it run autonomously? Where does it needs te pc for besides power from the motherboard obviously?
