Sound Card/Audio Software issue

Got a buddy installing a new home studio. He has decent gear, connections, PC & software. For some reason he is getting a terrible amount of HISS when recording into it. I think the issue is his sound card. It may be 'too good' for simple stereo/mini-jack audio. It is one of those hopped up surround sound cards, and not the simple stereo one.

I messed around with the audio inputs and outputs on the recording control (which helped) but did not completely eliminate the huge amount of hiss.

Any ideas? [email protected]

What's feeding the card? A mixer, mic preamp or some other device? Also - did you connect to the "line" input, not the "mic" input of the sound card?

I've gotten this problem when I had an audio loop. Are you 100% sure that the output of the audio card isn't feeding back into the input? Also, some computer software settings will do an audio loop.
