Sound card - on-air system

We currently broadcast with an EchoMia Midi but plan to switch to another sound card. We stream our station with a digigram card.

Would you recommend an Audio Science card over Digigram and EchoMia Midi?

thanks! josh

Digigram is OK but not as transparent as an ASI.. Echo cards might suffice for non critical uses (light production/back up).

I have had many problems with the Echo cards. I will not buy that brand again. I use Digigram in almost everything (due to Audiovault). The cards were reliable, so I placed them in all of the Audition workstations as well. I have never had an issue. I did use 2 multichannel ASI cards to run our Internet streams for a while and they were rock solid as well.

So, I would say either ASI or Digigram will be a fine choice. Just find the most reasonable price for the features you require.

Audio Science yes. They’ll handle just about anything you throw at them.

EchoMia Midi cards don't support on the fly rate changes and will not handle more than one file playback at one time. Even the old standby SoundBlaster’s will do that (albeit with increased distortion & noise!).

The first part of your assertion is likely true but not he second. You can create 4 "virtual" sound cards and they appear as four separate devices in Windows. I've used the MiaMIDI in that manner with BSI Simian and never had trouble at any of the stations where I installed that setup.

An e-mail from the Echo people told me what I stated. Plus NewsRoom uses only the WDM interface & "wavemapper" is not an option. Our experience is it doesn't play different rates from (for example) Windows MP and KLZ NewsRoom at the same time, or one after the other. We had problems with wrong speed playback, hanging, & BSD weirdness. The Soundblasters work flawlessly.
