Sound Cards

I'm putting together a home studio and was looking for advice on affordable sound cards. I'm sure there are a few new ones out there. Anyone?

The ECHO MIA MIDI is a great sound card for a low price.

for a bit more the Echo Layla G3 is super. Try a firewire interface. The Mackie Onyx 1220, 1660.... with the firewire option takes the need of a sound card away by plugging direct via Firewire.

For about $100, you can get an M-Audio Audiophile 2496. Great little card for cheap. Spec'd very nicely.

Emmett1057 is right M-Audio Audiophile 2496 is the card to go with if you are on a tight budget. And the great thing about it is it works with Protools M-powered . I just ordered Audiophile 2496 and I cant wait to use it. So much bang for your buck.

I have a M-Audio Audiophile 192 that worked great, until it died. Not sure why, still working with their tech support on that. Picked up the Presonus Firebox this weekend. It's firewire, so I'm excited about the possibility of using it with the laptop on the road. Got 2 mic pres built in, has phantom power, and at just under $300 the price was right. It was a breeze to install too. One minor issue, if you are using Adobe Audition, Audition doesn't support ASIO drivers, but the Firebox has WDM too so it was no big deal.

I like the look (read specs) of the Echo stuff. A guy I know also mentioned Emu, but I don't know anything about that line.

I can second the Firebox. Been using one for about a year now and haven't had any problems at all using it with Audition and Cubase SX2. Great little box. Not too turned on by the pre's but they're not bad but I just bypass them. But as far as getting audio into your system it's great. Plus you've got S/Pdif to boot so if your using an A/D D/A that doesn't have firewire just put it through the Firebox via S/Pdif. Alot of options with this little box.<P ID="signature">______________
